The Mare Tranquillitatis (浮幽海, Fuyuukai, Floating Secluded Sea) is an area accessible from deep inside the Chaos Exhibition.
Features
The Mare Tranquilitatis is a strange, dark blue area that seems to be submerged in water, dotted with seaweed and colorful spots on the ground. As you travel through the area, strange, ambient noises seem to surround you, and the lighting will shift from dark to light. One of the pyramids here leads to an inescapable black void.
The great majority of the map's assets are made from other assets made by the map's developer, Anon, perhaps most obviously inverses of the pyramids and number tiles from the Burial Desert. In addition, this map also contains the lampposts and wandering residents of the Buried City.
While wandering this area, occasionally you will find roads that will block your path. It's possible to travel on one of them if you find its entrance; it leads to a pyramid with a door in it that leads to an isolated section with an embryo from the Chaos Exhibition as well as Buried City NPCs, blocking off a section with tons of strange jellyfish-like creatures. One of them is black and red, and can be interacted with; if you interact with it with the Crossing effect equipped, you'll be dropped in Forest World.
Trivia
- This world's Japanese name can be interpreted as a multi-layered pun. The pronounciation sounds similar to the Japanese word "Fuyukai" (不愉快) meaning discomfort, suggesting the alternate name "Unpleasant Sea". The "Fuyuu" (浮幽) sounds similar to "Fuyu" (冬), meaning winter, suggesting the apparent frigidity of the area, while simultaneously being a homophone for 浮遊, which means floating or suspension, describing how Urotsuki is suspended (浮遊) in a dark, secluded (幽) ocean (海). Finally, the last two kanji, 幽海, are a homophone for 幽界, the Japanese world for the underworld, or the realm of the dead.
