It's a fairly old thing, but it's still not clear what triggers that event. I started to experiment, and here's what I've got:
-It appeared when I attacked the clown in the Guts World hallway, but escaped with the eye-bomb before (s)he could catch me.
-Then, I started a completely new, clean game, and I didn't attack anything, apart from Urotsuki's reflection in the Day/night towers to get some money. And the clown appeared when my money was over 1000.
I think you have been attacked because of the latter.
