It's way better to download the newest version of the game for a full experience.
It may be true that trying to find an effect to equip in the list is a chore. That said, the effect-browser provided by the shift button solved it nicely, one of the best UI-based ideas for the game.
The translation is useful, but extremely minimal anyway. I now wonder if it could function with any version of the game. *grins*
