[[Category:Autumn]] The Shadow Lady Estate is a mansion accessed through a northern path in Decrepit Village.
Features
Exterior
From the north path in Decrepit Village, the player is lead through a stony brick path with moss, outside of which is peppered with unremarkable vegetation and puddles. Here, it will be raining, and the thick fog from the prior area will have vanished unless the player decides to leave.
Upon arriving at the Estate's front yard past the open fence, you'll be met with its exterior, built from dark brick and lined with many windows. Much of the front is covered in ivy and vines. Standing guard above two windows are two stone gargoyles fashioned in the likeness of the Shadow Bird chasers. Upon using an effect that creates a loud noise, such as the Telephone or Drum, the gargoyles will stare at Urotsuki. Each time a noisy effect is used, there is a small chance that they may become animate and jump off the sides of the walls and begin to chase the player, banishing Urotsuki to the Estate's attic if she is caught, where she may only pound on the door to no avail.
After ascending the stairs, the player may enter through the doors to the interior. During this transition, the gargoyles will stare at Urotsuki.
Interior
After entering through the creaky front doors, the player is lead to a main hall within, where you may access the east wing, the west wing, or the southern area. Much of the decor and furnishing inside are heavily inspired by Victorian aesthetics with a very distinct Gothic flair. The halls here have many wall sconces, windows, and red curtains framing the walls, and every now and then you may see columns lining the halls. A few Shadow Ladies can be seen wandering around here; chainsawing any of the estate's residents will turn them insane and lock you in the Attic if they catch you, much like the gargoyles from the exterior. In the far east, you can find a sofa with a Shadow Lady sitting upon it. If you sit with her, she will meet eyes with Urotsuki if she looks to the left.
The carpeted doorways in the east wing only lead to the Study, one of the largest rooms available in the estate. Here, you can see many of the residents sitting at tables, reading or not doing much at all. The Study itself is quite spacious and has a fireplace to sit and relax at, where a portrait of a Shadow Lady is hanging above. Many tall bookshelves and potted plants can also be found, here.
The west wing has two doorways leading to a tiled kitchen area and a dining room south from it. The kitchen itself has striped wallpaper different from the rest of the Estate, and has what one may expect from a kitchen including a stovetop, ornate cupboards and cabinets, and a sink that the player can interact with. The dining room in the south has many guests quietly sitting at the table with silverware and napkins, although the player cannot join them. The two spare dining chairs in the corner, however, can be sat on.
Just south of the initial entrance are two rooms that can be entered. The east set of doors lead to a fainting room, a private, antiquated room from Victorian homes that often contained fainting couches for women to lay on. Upon entering, there is a small chance you may find a Shadow Lady resting on the fainting couch with a lit fireplace, who will glare at you if you brandish the Chainsaw; despite this, however, it is impossible to attack her. The west set of doors lead to a brief hallway with boxes and a bookshelf, where you may hear soft piano music playing. As you draw closer to the proceeding doorway, the music will grow louder. In the proceeding room, you can sit on the fainting couch near the exit, or interact with the middle barrier, which causes the camera to pan over to the Shadow Lady until the player moves. Using the Chainsaw or Crossing effects will cause the piano-playing Shadow Lady to stop, while the former will make her angry until it is unequipped. Equipping the Child, Fairy, or Dice effects will allow you to bypass the barriers. You can chainsaw the Shadow Lady, but doing so will once more trap you in the attic.
South of the fainting room and the piano room are four bedrooms that can be entered, some of which are occupied. The level of decor in these bedrooms vary, and all of them have closets that can be opened. The second bedroom from the left has a black and white cat, named Tiger, sitting on the bed, who does not react to any effect other than Crossing, and mewls when interacted with. If you attempt to chainsaw the cat, it will let out an angry meow, attracting the ire of a hostile Shadow Lady who will catch and wake up the player should they exit the bedroom. The third bedroom's closet contains a clone of Urotsuki curled up inside, much like the Closet Madotsuki from Yume Nikki.
The long, southern hall leads the player into the heavily-carpeted living room where the player may sit on the couch in front of a cozy fireplace alongside bookshelves and chairs, in the company of several Shadow Ladies, who send the player to a unique trap location if chainsawed. A closet is located in the right alcove, which leads the player into the Mannequin Maze.
Mannequin Maze
The Mannequin Maze is a dark, winding labyrinth of wooden mannequins dressed in the same black hats and dresses donned by a typical Shadow Lady, set upon a series of brown, isometric paths. This area has a few interest points, including a mannequin near the end of the first segment who stares at the player, a curtained area with a ghostly shadow lady with her back turned alongside another mannequin, windows pasted erratically on one of the pathways, and a shadow lady on an isolated platform who refuses to look at the player.
At the very end of the maze, you can find a construction sign placed next to another closet door that leads the player to a carpeted room with blue and purple striped wallpaper, a small television flickering with static, a giant teddy bear, and a teal stuffed rabbit. Several effects, when equipped, will make both dolls cover their eyes, namely Stretch, Grave, Chainsaw, and Marginal. The doorway at the north leads to a room with two faceless, stuffed dinosaurs, one of which Urotsuki can sit on unless she is using the Bike. The dinosaur in the foreground appears to be clipping through the wall, though this is intentional, and cannot be sat on. The final room leads to a long corridor, ending with some sort of television that is blocked off by construction signs. As Urotsuki draws closer to it, the static noise it creates grows progressively louder.
