The pronounciation sounds similar to the Japanese word "Fuyukai" (不愉快) meaning discomfort, suggesting the alternate name "Unpleasant Sea". The "Fuyuu" (浮幽) sounds similar to "Fuyu" (冬), meaning winter, suggesting the apparent frigidity of the area, while simultaneously being a homophone for 浮遊, which means floating or suspension, describing how Urotsuki is suspended (浮遊) in a dark, secluded (幽) ocean (海).
