Yume Nikki has many interconnected locations that vary wildly in theme and size. They house the 24 effects also may also contain events.

The dream world is an intricate labyrinth of openly looping regions and obscure pathways, but most regions of the game can be considered as part of an individual 'world' with connections to other worlds. This is a list of all the central worlds of Yume Nikki.

Note: In this wiki, the commonly-accepted fan names are used so that they are easier to find, although each area has an official name that is also listed on their respective pages (which are the map names when viewing the game in RPG Maker).

The Real World

The only location in the game that actually exists, though a dream version of it is present as well.

The place Madotsuki starts in, both in the real world and the dream world. In the real world she can play NASU and save the game, while the dream version leads to the Nexus.

The Original Locations

These are the places in the dream world that are accessible to the player from the very start of the dream, most of which having static, floating backgrounds and random objects plastered around. They lead to all of the deeper locations, and contain half of all of the effects.

[[Yume Nikki:The Nexus|The Nexus]] The Nexus 扉部屋 A hub with an Aztec-like pattern containing doors leading to the dream version of Madotsuki's Room and the 12 original locations.	[[Yume Nikki:Forest World|Forest World]] Forest World かえる A forested area that contains the Frog effect and odd blob creatures that can be interacted with. There is a gate near the center of the map that leads to the Face Carpet Plaza.	[[Yume Nikki:Block World|Block World]] Block World 帽子マフ A world full of blocks of varying shapes and sizes, almost like a maze. The Hat & Scarf effect lies inside, along with the men's restroom and an entrance to the White Desert.
[[Yume Nikki:Puddle World|Puddle World]] Puddle World かさ A dark, unremarkable world filled with puddles, lamp posts, and a flight of stairs leading to the Dense Woods. The Umbrella effect can be found here.	[[Yume Nikki:Dark World|Dark World]] Dark World 包丁 A pitch-black world with more tribal patterns on the ground that requires the Lamp effect to see. The Kitchen Knife effect is found here, along with a gate to the Wilderness.	[[Yume Nikki:Snow World|Snow World]] Snow World 雪女 A snowy world with evergreen trees, igloos, and a bed. One of the igloos contains a portal to the Pink Sea. Interacting with the Yuki-onna gives Madotsuki the Yuki-onna effect.
[[Yume Nikki:Mural World|Mural World]] Mural World 髪型 A world filled with murals and very ominous music. The entrance to the Sewers is here via the manhole, as well as the Blonde and Long Hair effects.	[[Yume Nikki:Graffiti World|Graffiti World]] Graffiti World 自転車 A colorful world with floor tiles that chime when tread upon. When seen from a distance, the tiles form some sort of mosaic. The Bicycle effect, the entrance to the Mall and the women's restroom are found here.	[[Yume Nikki:Eyeball World|Eyeball World]] Eyeball World 目玉腕 A world filled with eyeballs and disembodied limbs all over. The Eye Palm effect can be gained from one of the grasping arms. A blue head takes the player to the Footprint Path once entered.
[[Yume Nikki:Candle World|Candle World]] Candle World 小人 A world filled with many candles, some even walking. The Midget effect can be obtained from a little dwarf creature, and an unusually fast Toriningen loiters near a bed. There is also an entrance to the Checkered Tile Path.	[[Yume Nikki:Shield-folk World|Shield-folk World]] Shield-folk World 猫耳 The home of the rather lethargic Shield-Folk, as well as many odd tiles; the Cat effect is located here. There's also a portal leading to the Static Maze.	[[Yume Nikki:Neon World|Neon World]] Neon World ネオン A labyrinthine area inhabited by many colorful creatures, making it slightly difficult to navigate and easy to get lost. The Neon effect and an entrance to the Neon Tile Path can be found here.
[[Yume Nikki:Number World|Number World]] Number World 電燈 One of the most notable and unsettling places in the game. The floor is adorned with numbers, and odd creatures inhabit the area. A Zippertile leading to Guillotine World, KyuuKyuu-kun, and the FACE event can be found here.

Deeper Locations

These worlds are accessed from the original locations and have more depth and personality than them, as most of them do not contain simple looking backgrounds. The remaining half of the effects that the player must get are found within some of these places.

[[Yume Nikki:Face Carpet Plaza|Face Carpet Plaza]] Face Carpet Plaza とげ Found in-between a pair of pillars in the Forest World, this area connects to Hell. There is a lunatic Toriningen here.	[[Yume Nikki:Hell|Hell]] Hell 赤 A massive crimson labyrinth with many branching pathways filled with Toriningen. There are connections to other areas, and a somewhat out of place vending machine.	[[Yume Nikki:White Desert|White Desert]] White Desert モノ A monochrome land notable for its unnerving art style, sheer amount of strange characters and events found within, although no effects.
[[Yume Nikki:Dense Woods|Dense Woods]] Dense Woods 道路, 樹海 A rather large area full of trees that connects to various other locations. Rain falls heavily, and there are weird creatures that populate it. The Stoplight effect can be found here, as well as a few Jellyfish.	[[Yume Nikki:Traincar|Traincar]] Traincar 電車車内 A seemingly normal train car that has a few monsters sitting down. Sitting on one of the seats for approximately seven seconds leads Madotsuki to the Witch's Island.	[[Yume Nikki:Witch's Island|Witch's Island]] Witch's Island 橋, 岸 A slightly massive forest beside a lake of some sort. It appears to be windy, as the Nopperabou Witches' dresses wiggle slightly. The Witch effect is found here.
[[Yume Nikki:The Wilderness|The Wilderness]] The Wilderness 砂 A vast expanse of curly plants and arid soil, reviled for being very difficult to navigate. Many events and the Towel effect hide inside. There is also a giant pyramid with a staircase that leads to the Sky Garden.	[[Yume Nikki:Barracks Settlement|Barracks Settlement]] Barracks Settlement 土 A small town located in the Wilderness filled with shacks and telephone poles. Pirori wander the streets, and one shack houses a strange creature.	[[Yume Nikki:Sky Garden|Sky Garden]] Sky Garden 公園 A park on top of the massive pyramid. It features a prominent background of a beautiful city night. The Maussan Bros and Organoid can be found here. There is also the entrance to Ghost World.
[[Yume Nikki:Ghost World|Ghost World]] Ghost World 塀 Accessed through the flowery tunnel in the Sky Garden, this bleak, featureless area houses the Triangle Kerchief effect.	[[Yume Nikki:Pink Sea|The Pink Sea]] The Pink Sea 浅瀬 Found through one of the igloos in Snow World, this area houses Poniko in her house, as well as numerous colored balloons that teleport Madotsuki in and out of the water and onto little islands.	[[Yume Nikki:The Sewers|The Sewers]] The Sewers どぶ The Sewers can be reached through a manhole in Mural World. There are holes in the walls that will display cartoonish drawings when interacted with. The Nopperabou effect and Big Red wait inside.
[[Yume Nikki:Windmill World|Windmill World]] Windmill World 座敷洞 An empty, looping area reached via Big Red's gaping maw. There are a few windmills. The Cube Guru and the Fisherman can both be found here, with the latter leading to the Docks.	[[Yume Nikki:The Docks|The Docks]] The Docks 湖回廊 This area is divided into two sections, one accessible from Hell, the other from Big Red. The Fat effect can be found in the former section, while a vending machine can be found in the other.	[[Yume Nikki:The Mall|The Mall]] The Mall デパート A somewhat gloomy complex, vague resembling a shopping mall, with avenues of mostly inaccessible buildings. Escalators lead to different floors. The Flute effect can be found in one of the rooms.
[[Yume Nikki:The Footprint Path|The Footprint Path]] The Footprint Path 足あと A dark road marked by white footprints and riddled with strange monsters. It connects Eyeball World to Hell.	[[Yume Nikki:The Checkered Tile Path|The Checkered Tile Path]] The Checkered Tile Path チェック A narrow, checkered path connecting Candle World to Hell, with an abstract background. A lunatic Toriningen patrols the area and can be hard to evade.	[[Yume Nikki:Static Maze|Static Maze]] Static Maze ＦＣ入り口 An invisible maze that leads to the FC World. Static flashes in the background periodically.
[[Yume Nikki:FC World|FC World]] FC World ＦＣマップ A group of areas where the game's graphics and music change to resemble an 8-bit game such as Mother or Final Fantasy.	[[Yume Nikki:Neon Tile Path|Neon Tile Path]] Neon Tile Path ネオンタイル A narrow passage of noisy red and purple neon tiles in front of a dark background. It connects Neon World to Hell.	[[Yume Nikki:Guillotine Room|Guillotine Room]] Guillotine Room 紫 A small, looping area that houses the Severed Head effect and numerous lunatic Toriningen. There is also a larger version of this area with eight lunatic Toriningen chasing after you.
[[Yume Nikki:The Teleport Maze|The Teleport Maze]] The Teleport Maze 兄弟 A large area full of floating platforms with interconnecting teleporters, the Teleport Maze can be accessed via the Dense Woods. Toriningen may also drop Madotsuki off here.	[[Yume Nikki:The Staircase of Hands|The Staircase of Hands]] The Staircase of Hands ベッドの中の階段 A diagonal staircase found by sleeping in a random bed in the dream world. Going upstairs will wake Madotsuki up, while continuing downstairs will lead to The Underground World.	[[Yume Nikki:The Underground World|The Underground World]] The Underground World 倉庫 A somewhat obscure area accessed through the Staircase of Hands, by using the Umbrella or Yuki-onna effects on the flames that block your path. The Poop Hair effect and the entrance to the Spaceship are here.
[[Yume Nikki:The Spaceship|The Spaceship]] The Spaceship 宇宙 A strange spaceship, complete with a piano, table, and nice view of space. It is owned by an alien known as Seccom Masada-sensei by fans. Upon sleeping in the bed, there is a chance that the ship will crash on Mars.	[[Yume Nikki:Mars|Mars]] Mars 火星 A red, rocky wasteland reached through the Spaceship. Traveling to the left will lead to a small steaming vent on top of a hill, which is accessible by using the Midget effect to go inside, where Mars-san is. The UFOs on Mars event also can be seen here.
