Yen is the currency used in Yume Nikki and can be randomly gained from killing NPCs. Often after stabbing a character with the Knife Effect equipped, there will be a scream and a short coin animation, signalling you've earned money from the kill. It serves no other purpose in the game other than being used to obtain Hearts from Vending Machines. However, the Hearts themselves appear to do nothing as you cannot be injured in the game. You can view your total amount of Yen from the main menu in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
