Yume 2kki:Installation Instructions

Revision as of 06:22, 5 June 2013 by >LainIwakura

Basic Information

Even though Yume 2kki can be an amazing gaming experience, installing it can be tricky. The main point of this page is to make installation easier. The operating system you're using determines how difficult it will be to make the game work.

  • guide now updated

Installation

Install eastern languages if they aren't installed

Go to Control Panel.

Go to Regional and Language Options.

Tick the "Install files for East Asian Languages" checkbox.

Press OK.

At this point, Windows will begin the install.

[NOTE: most modern computers Should have these pre-installed.]

Download and install Applocale

You can download Microsoft Applocale here.

Install Applocale to its default location.

if using vista, windows 7 or later, applocale has to be run as an administrator to install.

To do this you have to use the command prompt to install it, by right clicking on Command Prompt on Start Menu and then select “Run as Administrator”.

Change directory to the folder where you put apploc.msi (C:\Users\[Your username here]\Downloads\papploc.msi), and run it. From there Applocale should install successfully.

You may also choose to use "pApplocale", a convenient edit of the original program that lets you launch programs in applocale from the right-click menu. information on this version can be found below.

Download and install the Japanese RPG Maker 2000 RTP

You can download the RPG maker 2000 RTP here.

When it finishes downloading, run it and it will extract to its own folder. This is NOT the installation.

After extracting, go to the folder it extracted to and use Applocale to run it in Japanese (日本語, last in the dropdown menu) when running RPG2000RTP.exe .

Install it normally. If you did everything right, you'll see no errors. if on vista or win7, see troubleshooting below.

Download the most recent version of Yume 2kki

Since the collapse of Loda.jp, yume 2kki is being uploaded here.

Yume 2kki is split into a number of parts for each version [usually 2, sometimes more]. All download filenames are in english.

You'll want to download all the parts of the latest version (0.100a) in their name.

Click on their filename and then the japanese button below an ad to download them.

There are also small patches and bugfixes available occasionally, but are optional and are not required to play the game.

After downloading each part, run the .exe (part 1) through Applocale in Japanese (日本語, last in the dropdown menu). It will extract all the files to a folder.

This is your yume 2kki game folder, and you can move it wherever you want.

Playing the game

Go to the folder where you extracted the game.

Check to see if there's a file called RPG_RT.exe. If there's not, you can use any RPG_RT.exe from any game. You can also get it from here.

Open applocale and select your RPG_RT.exe and and run it in Japanese (日本語, last in the dropdown menu), making sure to tick Create a shortcut to always run this application with AppLocale before you click finish.

This will create a shortcut to the game in the all programs section of the start menu, inside the microsoft applocale folder.

This shortcut will automatically run the game in japanese, so you don't have to select it in applocale every time you want to play.

copy this to wherever you would like it and rename it "Yume 2kki".

Troubleshooting for specific OS

  • For all operating systems: You need to have all of the extra files from the Japanese RTP of RPG Maker 2000/2003 imported into their respective folders in your Yume 2kki folder, or else certain areas in the game (notably Space, Sky Kingdom, Wavy Up and Forest Carnival (Interior)) will crash.
  • For each new OS you may have to disable UAC to install things, this seemingly varies on a case-by-case basis.
  • you can turn off User Account Control's security measure if necessary by going to [Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings], and setting it to "never".

Windows Vista

Installation on Windows Vista computers is similar to installation on Windows XP models, but requires a few extra steps.

-Installing applocale on vista-

Unlike XP, there are certain settings you need to change to get the game working. You will either have to do one of two things to get Applocale running correctly.

Applocale has to be run as an administrator to install.

From there just follow steps 3-5 from the XP installation guide

Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium

If you are as unfortunate as ending up using Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic or Home Premium, I'm sorry to say that this has to be the most frustrating installation process by far due to the fact that they don't have the ability to Change Languages, as well as having to go through the administrator measures taken by Windows Vista models.

-Use Vistalizator to add Japanese languages to your computer-

Vistalizator is a great software that allows you to change language features on computers that don't have the ability to change them themselves. Download Vistalizator and the Japanese language packs here

If you're using Service Pack 1, there are a few extra steps to this installation. Right-click on Vistalizator.exe, go to Properties, then go to the Compatibility tab. Tick 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and choose 'Windows 7' from the drop-down box. Click OK and continue with the process.

From there you should open Vistalizator, click on "Add Languages" and then locate the directory the Japanese language pack is (the file name should look like a bunch of random letters and numbers). Then select the Japanese bar, and click "Add Language" (Installing the language pack could take up to 20 minutes).

If you're using Service Pack 1, you'll have to install using the 'Express' method instead of the 'Internal' method.

-Installing applocale on Win7 basic-

Unlike XP, there are certain settings you need to change to get the game working. You will either have to do one of two things to get Applocale running correctly.

Applocale has to be run as an administrator to install.

From there just follow steps 3-5 from the XP installation guide

Windows 7 Home Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise

Installing Yume 2kki on a Windows 7 Home Ultimate or Home Enterprise computer is similar to installing it on Vista, so use that as a reference.

pApplocale

"pApplocale" is a modified version of applocale that skips the annoying step-by-step thing everytime you want to start a program, for the sake of convenience.

You can download pApplocale here.

The contextmenu.reg is a registry file that adds the option to Run with pApplocale to the right-click menu on Windows.

The Context Menu attachment can be found here. Install pApplocale to its default location.

Extract Context Menu.zip and double click Install.reg.

To uninstall, double click on Uninstall.reg
