Vending Machine

Jihanki scorched wasteland ashen.png The same as above, except it is covered in ash.
Jihanki scorched wasteland.png This vending machine is badly broken and also seems to be slightly rusted. It only sells empty cans which grant no hearts (of course, because they're empty) for 10夢.

The Scorched Wasteland (赤土, Akatsuchi, Red Earth) is an area accessible from Floating Stones World through the cactus-shaped stone.

Features

When entering, the Scorched Wasteland is a red-tinted area containing cacti singed black, possibly the bed of a dried-up sea. Black crabs are scattered across the area, which remain alive and well despite the setting. Directly to the west is a fenced- off area, which takes you to the Ash Shettlement when entered.

If you attempt to make it rain or snow with the Teru Teru Bouzu effect, all of the cacti will turn into hands, reaching out towards the rain clouds.

North from the entrance is an NPC in a yellow cloak near a wire-fenced corridor. By chainsawing the cloaked figure and entering the corridor, you will be taken to a path scattered with pieces from broken-down ships. The crabs here walk in sync, and equipping the Penguin or Grave effects will cause the shadows of dolphin-like creatures to appear on the ground. Along this path is a rusted vending machine which sells broken, empty cans for 10夢 and several broken wooden objects on the ground; continuing west from here will take you to The Ark.

If you attempt to return to the Scorched Wasteland on later visits, the cloaked being's yellow cloak will be hiked on a pole in his honor. At this point you can no longer visit the Ark; if you try, you will instead find that a creepy, one-eyed seal is in its place. If you exit back into Floating Stones World and reenter, the cloaked figure will be revived and the Ark will return.

There is an alternate entrance here from Atlantis; if the screen is tinted red, a uniquely shaped piece of coral in the Trench area will serve as a one-way portal to this area.

The Ash Settlement

This is an area similar to the Barracks Settlement from Yume Nikki - dilapidated housing surrounded by wire fences with red, skeletal beings walking around. Two of the shacks will have open doors; one has nothing in it, but the other has a plant in it that when interacted with will (sometimes) take you to an gray ash field when you go outside again.

This new area is completely gray, and the NPCs that were in the settlement area are now a dark grey instead of red. To the east is another vending machine which sells empty cans and a bench on which Urotsuki will refuse to sit. Travelling south from the vending machine will lead you to a doorway, which will take you to a black platform with a penguin on it. This platform is part of a larger area, the other half of which you can reach after traveling on the Ark.

The Ark

The Ark is a huge black boat behind more wire fences, with a small, empty bedroom inside. If you go to sleep, the screen will randomly fade to black and Urotsuki will wake up in the middle of a terrible storm, and you won't be able to leave the ark when you go outside. Sleeping in the bed once again, the world will now be colourful when you wake up and you can safely exit the ark onto a red wooden dock.

Travelling east will lead to a sectioned off platform viewing the new blue and gold background. Using the Rainbow effect here will make a rainbow appear. Sometimes, a whale- like plane will be flying past.

Going west, you will see another whale, and will ultimately end up at the colorized version of the penguin area. This area is shaped like a manta ray; you can see its eyes, its fins, and its tail; if you use the Fairy effect, the tail will scrunch up. At the north of the manta ray is a large staircase; although it is blocked off by construction signs, interacting with one will trigger a full-screen event, where the camera scrolls up the image of the stairs to reveal that it leads into a huge glowing object in the sky that resembles the sun.

Trivia

  • This world is the most complex compound map in the game, consisting of a total of ten maps. In contrast, only five were used to make the Forest Pier.
