The title screen of Memory Game

Memory Game (stylised as "Memory Game.exe") is a card game in Urotsuki's Game Console, which is unlocked after interacting with a computer in Fliperama Hall.

Main game

The game references old Windows games's aesthetics, down to the window in which the game takes place. The game is played with a cursor, where the Movement Keys (WASD/arrows) move the cursor, the Action Key (Z/Enter) acts as a click, and the Cancel Key (X/Shift) speeds up the movement when held.

Many buttons can be seen on the lower side and top right of the screen, with some of them only being available after finishing a full game. Hitting the X on the top right of the screen closes the game, which takes Urotsuki back to her room, and hitting the || button pauses the game.

Guide

The main goal of the game is to get as many points as possible within the ten rounds (or "Stages") it spans. At the left side of the scoreboards, ten light bulbs can be found, with each lit one representing the current stage. The first round starts with only three pairs of cards, adding one each round until round 7. At the beginning of each round, every card on the board will be shown for a few seconds before being turned again.

Score

The cards score different points depending on their colour, following an order similar to a rainbow, and with red scoring the lowest (10 points) and magenta scoring the highest (90 points). Every card also plays a sound effect when flipped, with its pitch depending on how many points they earn.

Additionally, combos can be performed by forming multiple pairs without mistakes, up to a limit of six pairs (represented by the light bulbs found at the right side of the scoreboard).. With every level of the combo, the score of a pair gets quadrupled, up to a maximum of a x4096 multiplier. However, misses will subtract from the score, and multiple misses will combo with each other as well, up to a maximum of 10000 points deducted per mistake. Upon finishing a round, the clock subtracts the time spent from the score.

A highscore is only registered by playing every round from 1 to 10 in a row, without restarts or interruptions.

Reveal

When pressed, the "Reveal" button will show the symbols of every unflipped card, but the clock will advance much quicker.

Note that Mystery Cards will not have their symbol shown when using the Reveal button.

Mystery Cards and Card Shuffling

In rounds 8 and 10, some cards will not have their color and symbol shown, instead being replaced by Mystery Cards, which are grey with a question mark. In order to find their correct pairs, the player must check the sound effects they make when flipped. Card Shuffling occurs in rounds 9 and 10, either after two mistakes or after three moves, and it makes two randomly selected cards switch places.

Stage progression

  • Stage 1: One pair of Red, Orange and Yellow cards (6 cards in total).
  • Stage 2: A Green pair of cards is added (8 cards in total).
  • Stage 3: A Light Blue pair of cards is added (10 cards in total).
  • Stage 4: A Blue pair of cards is added (12 cards in total).
  • Stage 5: A Purple pair of cards is added (14 cards in total).
  • Stage 6: A Pink pair of cards is added (16 cards in total).
  • Stage 7: A Magenta pair of cards is added (18 cards in total).
  • Stage 8: Introduction of Mystery Cards.
  • Stage 9: Introduction of Card Swapping.
  • Stage 10: Mystery Cards and Card Swapping are combined, with Card Swapping changing two pairs of cards instead of one.
