Badge batches

Hello! Sorry for not responding on YNO when you pinged me about your question about the badge batches. I typically am AFK and have the tab muted when I'm doing badge stuff, and solely use the tab for looking at the badge menu, so I'm unable to see the game or chat while doing that. I was not attempting to ignore you, if that at all seemed to be the case.

I noticed you asked about the new badge stuff. I want to start by saying you didn't do anything wrong and I apologize if me renaming and redoing the edits you contributed seemed like I was stamping out your work in favor of my own. Typically, I am the only person left to do badge stuff on the wiki, so I have a very specific workflow and naming scheme for things, so it was a bit different to have someone try to do it too, but I appreciate the help. If you'd like to still help with badges, I can try and teach you the workflow I have so that it's more suited with how a lot of the already-documented badge stuff is implemented on the wiki (this includes updating pages, filenames for the badges, etc.).

Again, I apologize if it seemed like I was attempting to erase your work and then ignoring you when you asked about it. That was not at all my intention and I would have contacted you earlier if I had seen you attempting to contact me. Entirely my fault. Have a nice day. --WikiOdd (talk) 06:12, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you for your response!
I apologize; I should have attempted to contact you through your Wiki Talk page instead of randomly pinging you on YNO. Not your fault at all!
Thank you for your clarification. Please don't hesitate to revert or fix any of my edits. I'm relatively new to Yume Nikki (and fangames) and very new to Wiki editing in general, so being corrected is how I'll learn! I would love to learn your current workflow for adding badges. I would guess that it's quite a bit faster than any method I would use otherwise.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding! --GrogsyShovel (talk) 06:32, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Sure! I'd be glad to show how I typically do badge-related stuff. It would be a big help on the subpages for each individual game, since i typically update the "All Badges" list rather than the subpages, with some (especially the 2kki page) being severely outdated.
Since you were able to get some of the badge images last time, I assume you know how to get them easily (from the YNO GitHub). If you somehow got them through some other method, here in the GitHub page for badge-related stuff.
To start, it's best to gather all of the badges in a batch before starting editing. I noticed last time that you did about half of what was in the batch before stopping, but I would personally recommend trying to get everything down in one go/edit. Since the badges are new, some people might want to check the badge page if they aren't sure how to get it with the provided hints, but if they see that the badge they're looking for is missing even though other new ones are there, it can create an inconvenience.
Secondly, you seemed to be able to fill out the badge template just fine when you updated the 2kki subpage, which is good! However, all of the new badges were placed at the bottom. All of the badges should be listed in the order they appear on YNO, which will make them easier to find for some people.
Lastly, I have a specific naming scheme for the badge image files. It is usually two words that very briefly describe the badge followed by, in parentheses, the word "badge" followed by two initials signifying which came the badge comes from. Some examples are BikerUro(badgeY2).png ( BikerUro(badgeY2).png ), Busted(badgeOS).gif ( Busted(badgeOS).gif ), and CelestialGardenBluz(badgeY2).gif ( CelestialGardenBluz(badgeY2).gif ). Also note that if the badge has an animated version the filenames should be the same between the animated and still version. Below are also the initials I use to determine the badge's origin game:
YN Y2 DF AP DD SD AM UD BG MR DG MM UV SA OS YT YNO
Yume Nikki Yume 2kki Dotflow (.flow) Answered Prayers Deep Dreams Someday Amillusion Uneven Dream Braingirl Muma Rope Dream Genie Mikan Muzou Ultra Violet She Awaits Oversomnia Yume Tsushin YNO
Hopefully, I've explained everything correctly. If there's you have a question about or are unsure about, please feel free to ask! It's good to have somebody also wanting to work on badge stuff. I also apologize for the somewhat late response. Thank you! --WikiOdd (talk) 22:36, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I will make sure to follow these guidelines in future edits.
I have a feeling that this should be listed somewhere more accessible to new editors. Perhaps we should move it to YNOproject:Badge List (talk)? --GrogsyShovel (talk) 19:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
