There are 17 effects that can be collected by Soutarou throughout various locations in the dream world. By obtaining all 17, the player can unlock the game's Endings.
Some effects have different names while awake and while in the dream world; the names listed here are the ones in the latter. For example, the Ooze effect becomes "Tar?" while awake. Their descriptions are also changed to "A hazy memory" while awake.
Effects
Centipede
Become a centipede
Appearance: Soutarou becomes a centipede.
Passive Effect: Soutarou is able to navigate the dream world faster.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him duck down.
Location: Found in Bean Sprouts World, by interacting with the creature southeast of the entrance.
Practical Uses: Can be used to travel through the dream world much faster, chase fast-moving NPCs, and escape from chasers more easily.
Knuckledusters
Hold a pair of knuckledusters
Appearance: Soutarou wears a black plastic bag over his head and holds a pair of brass knuckles as a weapon.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him remove the bag on his head and carry it in his hand.
Location: Found in the Park's subarea, by interacting with the shadow of Soutarou, sitting on a bench southeast of the entrance.
Practical Uses: Can be used to kill NPCs. If Soutarou has the plastic bag in his hand and tries to kill a calm chaser, the chaser will become enraged instead of dying.
Black Hair
Change your hair color to black
Appearance: Soutarou's hair turns black.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him cross his arms.
Recommended Effects: Down Jacket
Location: Found in the Factory, by entering the room with a glass wall. The effect is obtained after leaving the room.
Practical Uses: None.
Pair of Hands
Become a pair of hands
Appearance: Soutarou's head is replaced with a pair of hands.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him clap both pairs of hands.
Location: Found at the end of Hand Sector, by interacting with the giant pair of hands.

Western Style Toilet
Sit on a western style toilet
Appearance: Soutarou sits on a floating western-styled toilet.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing shift flushes the toilet.
Location: Found in Inorganic Building, after interacting with the left stall in the men's restroom.
Practical Uses: None.
Envelope
Become an envelope
Appearance: Soutarou's head is replaced with a brown envelope.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift opens the envelope and makes a note pop out.
Location: Found in the Abandoned Building, on top of a table.
Recommended Effects: Black Cat
Practical Uses: Can be used to create a landmark, which is useful in large areas.
Pattern
Become a pattern
Appearance: Soutarou's head becomes a strange square pattern.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift makes the pattern get larger and dissolve, sending him to the Nexus.
Location: Found in Prismatic Zone, east of the Sepia Island entrance.
Practical Uses: Using the effect's action, you can go back to the Nexus in tricky situations, such as being trapped somewhere, or just to go somewhere else.
Tape
Put tape on your face
Appearance: Soutarou's face is covered with red scotch tape.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him spin around, causing the tape to change color, occasionally placing the tape on the back of his head revealing a bloodied/missing face.
Location: Found in Bloodied Cross Corridor, at the end of the corridor.
Practical Uses: None.
Down Jacket
Wear a down jacket
Appearance: Soutarou wears a red jacket and becomes completely white.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift turns him into a younger version of himself, causing snow to fall and making chasers disappear.
Location: Found in Mannequin Street, by interacting with the mannequin behind the window.
Practical Uses: Using the effect's action, you can escape chasers easily.
Chains
Become bound with chains
Appearance: Soutarou is covered in chains.
Passive Effect: Halves his speed and makes metal noises when he walks.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him cry and shake his head.
Location: Found in Snow World, to the southwest of the entrance by going through the sets of poles.
Required Effects: Knuckledusters or Pair of Hands
Practical Uses: None.
Frame
Become a picture frame
Appearance: Soutarou's head is replaced with a framed portrait of himself.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift causes the portrait to become cracked and bloodstained, stopping NPC movement.
Location: Found in the Maid Mansion, by interacting with the blacked picture frame in the large room.
Practical Uses: Using the effect's action, you can stop NPCs.
Black Cat
Become a black cat
Appearance: Soutarou turns into a black cat with yellow eyes and a piercing in his left ear.
Passive Effect: Allows him to see in the dark.
Action: Pressing Shift makes him meow.
Location: Found in Black Stone World, after interacting with the white cat.
Practical Uses: The passive effect lets Soutarou see in dark areas, improving navigation.
Distortion

Appearance: Soutarou's colors become corrupted/highly saturated.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift glitches out his sprite, playing a series of random beeps.
Location: Found in FC World in two locations. It can be obtained by either interacting with the glitched NPC to the southeast of the entrance, or by interacting with the sign twice in the subarea.
Practical Uses: Pressing Shift in FC World activates the Glitching the Dream event.
Torso
Become a torso
Appearance: Soutarou turns into a headless torso.
Passive Effect: Halves his speed.
Action: Pressing Shift causes Soutarou to ooze blood.
Location: Found in Iron Plate, to the east of the Serene Hill entrance. Interact with the corpse.
Practical Uses: None.
Case
Become trapped inside of a case
Appearance: Soutarou becomes trapped in a glass case with a large bloodstain on the back.
Passive Effect: Attracts NPCs.
Action: Pressing Shift causes him to rattle around for a second.
Location: Found in the top left corner of the Abandoned Rooftop, inside of a vending machine. Requires 100 yen to obtain.
Recommended Effects: Down Jacket
Practical Uses: The passive effect will assist with finding NPCs.
Clot
Become a lump of slimy material
Appearance: Soutarou slides around in a pool of black slime.
Passive Effect: Reduces his speed.
Action: Pressing Shift causes him to vomit up more slime.
Location: Found in Migraine Hallways, by interacting with the black stained wall in one of the rooms.
Practical Uses: None.
Window
Become a window
Appearance: Soutarou's head becomes a window.
Passive Effect: None.
Action: Pressing Shift causes the window to open, displaying a picture.
Location: Found in Dim Garden, by interacting with the Window south of the entrance.
Practical Uses: None.
Pseudo-Effects
Rolling Chair
Appearance: Soutarou holds onto his chair and puts one leg onto the ground.
Passive Effect: Soutarou moves at a faster speed, similar to the Centipede.
Action: None.
Location: Soutarou's Dream Room, by interacting with the desk twice.
Practical Uses: Can be used to get around the dream worlds faster, although you cannot swap to or collect any effects with it active.
