The Nefarious Chessboard is an area accessible from Pillar Ark.

Annotated map of the area

Features

Nefarious Chessboard is a small looping area with looping red and green tiles. Various orange chess pieces are scattered throughout the area, casting demon-like shadows. There are patches of black tiles which cannot be crossed. Orange tiles bridge some of these patches; while shrunken, orange tiles cannot be crossed. To the top left of the entrance is an inaccessible piece of cheese.

East of the entrance is a purple X-shaped teleporter connecting to Checkered Towers. Southwest of the entrance is another purple rune-shaped teleporter connecting to Topdown Dungeon.

Southeast of the entrance is an unfinished connection, and further southeast is a red switch between two chess pieces. Flipping this switch inverts the map. The red and green tiles are swapped, and the music changes to a more ominous tune. The chess pieces turn grey, resembling their shadows, which now resemble the original pieces. The orange tiles also become grey, and the shrunken tiles grow, making them able to be crossed. Northwest of the entrance, is the path to Apple Prison, which becomes accessible in this state.

To the left of the Apple Prison entrance, is a large patch of black tiles with a chess piece in the center. Interacting with it makes Urotsuki make a refusal sound in either state of the chessboard.
