Mossy Tunnels is an area accessible from a solitary open grave in Dimensional Graves.

Features

Mossy Tunnels is a world consisting of a network of corridors and chambers overgrown with green moss. Beneath the moss, the walls of the tunnels are constructed from stone bricks, while the floor is simply made up of dirt. The tunnels are set atop a continuously scrolling background pattern of black veins weaving through a murky, reddish-brown texture.

The tunnels are inhabited primarily by wandering stick figures, which come in both purple and red varieties. Brown beasts with red eyes and frail limbs also roam the tunnels, crawling around on all fours. Upon interaction, the stick figures will produce a sound similar to that of a plastic coin being dropped onto a hard surface, while interacting with the quadrupeds will prompt them to let forth a hoarse roaring noise.

On display throughout the tunnels are a number of sculptures that rest atop cylindrical stone pedestals which are covered in vines. The subjects depicted include a duck, a clump of moss, a parachute, and a stick figure. Additionally there is one pedestal that lacks a corresponding sculpture entirely.

Within a chamber in the southeast corner of the tunnel network is a tall ladder that connects to Dimensional Graves upon interaction.

A corridor that leads north from the ladder chamber and bends to the west will let out into a different chamber. Contained within this room is the sculpture of a duck. To the south of the sculpture, there is a pair of orange open connection signs.

A narrow corridor at the northern end of the chamber with the duck sculpture links it to a set of three chambers that form a bilaterally symmetrical unit. The southeastern of the three chambers contains the moss clump sculpture, while the southwestern chamber contains the parachute sculpture. The northernmost of these chambers serves as the initial location of Mr Duck. Mr Duck is a large, yellow rubber duck with a red head. A black top hat with purple stripes hovers just above his head. He floats through the air, allowing Minnatsuki to pass underneath him.

Interacting with Mr Duck from the front will play a squeaking sound as the background music stutters and the screen cuts to black. When view of the environment returns, Mr Duck's head will have lost color and begun to display television static, the world itself will have become noticeably desaturated, and the background music will have been replaced with garbled noise. While the world is in this state, an image may occasionally flash onto the screen for a brief moment. Additionally, the entrance to the chamber that initially houses Mr Duck will become impassable, sealed by an invisible barrier. As a result, interacting with Mr Duck to trigger this world state from inside the chamber will momentarily trap Minnatsuki inside. However, it is possible for Mr Duck to wander outside of this chamber beforehand, and interacting with him from the outside will simply prevent Minnatsuki from entering it instead. Regardless, all of the aforementioned changes can be reversed by simply interacting with Mr Duck from the front again. Like before, this will cause the screen to briefly go dark with a squeaking sound, though the background music will simply cut out rather than stuttering.

Attacking Mr Duck with the Soulfire eidolon while the world is in its normal state will unlock the "Ugly Duckling" book cover, prompt the background music to cut out, and cause Mr Duck to deflate. Though his body will fall flat upon the floor, Mr Duck's hat will remain floating in the air where it was prior to the attack. After 9.5 seconds, Mr Duck will return to his normal state and start moving again, and the background music will begin to play again.

By taking a corridor south from the parachute sculpture chamber, Minnatsuki will reach a very small chamber containing the pedestal without a sculpture on it.

Trivia

  • This world is a one-to-one recreation of a dream the author had that featured stickmen, a mossy tunnel, and a giant floating rubber duck.
