Sniper-san is a recurring NPC found in Uwa's work.

Interaction

Sniper-san appears to be obsessed with wartime weapons, often being found around grenades, bullets, and various types of guns (particularly rifles, one of which he often carries around and polishes). They also seem to be associated with medical supplies, as various worlds around them feature syringes, pills, and bandages. If Urotsuki attempts to kill him with the Chainsaw effect in any place he can be normally reached, she will pause for a moment before backing away and refusing.

Sweet Medical Utopia

Sniper-san in his room at the Hospital Outlook.

Sniper-san can first be found in the Hospital Outlook area of Sweet Medical Utopia. Upon entering the open portion of the bridge, Urotsuki will be taken to Sniper-san's room, where they can be found polishing a rifle while atop a set of boxes. If the Chainsaw, Cake, or Gakuran effects are equipped, they will attentively look up from polishing their weapon. Interacting with them while the Chainsaw effect is equipped has a chance to send the player to Rifle Wasteland.

Upon entering the room, there is a small chance Sniper-san's room will be dark, with him lying on the bed, bloodied and breathing heavily. In this state, a jar of pills on the ground acts as a warp to Azure Overdose Zone while the now-unblocked doorway on the left of the room will lead to Blissful Clinic.

Rifle Wasteland

Sniper-san can be found wandering the Rifle Wasteland, holding his sniper rifle. Depending on which effects are equipped (Bike, Wolf, Eyeball Bomb, Penguin, Insect, Spring, Bat, and Drum), he will approach Urotsuki and unequip the effects with a popping noise. Additionally, if the player entered this world via Sniper-san's room, they can return to his room by interacting with him while the Cake effect is equipped.

Other than reacting to a few more effects differently, he merely wanders around in this world.

Azure Overdose Zone

While not found in this world's main area, Sniper-san can be found in a small subarea. By going in between two parallel pill packs, Urotsuki will be taken to a tunnel where Sniper-san can be found on the ground, seemingly defeated as a streak of blood leading to him is smeared on the wall.

Blissful Clinic

Sniper-san at the Blissful Clinic.

Located behind the first door on the clinic's third floor, Sniper-san can typically be found in his hospital room getting scolded by a nurse as his room is in disarray. Upon reentering, there is a chance that the nurse and mess will be gone, with Sniper-san wandering the room.

If Variable #44 is between 237 and 255, Sniper-san's room will be dark, with him also being absent. If the player heads to the rooftop when the room is in this state, Sniper-san will be standing atop the rooftop railing with his rifle in hand. Upon being approached, the screen will fade to black before a thud noise plays, slowly fading in to reveal Sniper-san is gone.

Doomsday

Sniper-san can be found sitting on a giant swing with a black bird in this area. Here, Sniper-san and the bird react to various effects, with Sniper-san notably having more fantastical reactions to effects than what could be previously seen.

If the Chainsaw, Cake, Eyeball Bomb, or Invisible effects are used, he will simply look over at Urotsuki. If the Boy or Fairy effects are equipped, he will grow a set of blue horns. If the Wolf effect is equipped, he will grow a set of wolf ears and a tail, howling with Urotsuki when the effect is used. The Stretch and Grave effects will make him disappear, the Plaster Cast effect will make his left eye bloody, and the Twintails and Polygon effects will wrap him up in a purple blanket with blue decor in his hair, appearing to fall asleep.

Appearance

Sniper-san is a tall boy with pale skin, black hair, and purple eyes. His outfit appears to be either a military uniform with a cape or a gakuran outfit. He is usually seen holding a gray rifle.

In the Blissful Clinic, he wears a green hospital gown with an eyepatch over his left eye.

Theories

Imagery associated with wartime is heavy throughout Sniper-san's sector. Sniper-san himself is often found around weapons and explosives, while symbols of peace and purity, such as dove feathers and lotus flowers, are found in distorted and bloodied states. Most notably, the entirety of Heartfelt Eclipse Sea resembles a corpse with its lower half missing, with its entrails scattered around a nearby rifle. Medical equipment, particularly ingested or injected medicine, is also heavily present throughout Sniper-san's sector, most notably in Sweet Medical Utopia, File Viewer, and Azure Overdose Zone, the latter of which is only accessed after finding Sniper-san seemingly overdosing in his room.

One possible theory is that, based on Sniper-san's association with weapons, as well as their uniform and name, they were an actual sniper or soldier in a war and may have some sort of trauma associated with this position, possibly experiencing guilt or post-traumatic stress disorder. The various reaching hands seen in places such as Rifle Wasteland and Wan Lotus Docks may be a representation of this or the various people Sniper-san may have killed. It should be noted that, in most places where Sniper-san can be found, he will stop and stare at Urotsuki if she has the Invisible effect, which may be indicative of "seeing things that aren't there" (hallucinations). To combat this, it appears that Sniper-san turned to medication, as shown by the various drug imagery in the worlds he appears in, as well as his overdose in his room.

This overdose appears to have landed Sniper-san in Blissful Clinic, where he is seen in a hospital gown and with an eyepatch over his left eye, which appears to be what had been bloodied in the scene in Sweet Medical Utopia. Even in a presumably more safe environment, he appears to have manic or suicidal episodes, as shown through the broken glass, scattered weapons, and failed hanging attempt that are all found in his room at certain points. Additionally, he is scolded by nurses for these episodes and is even isolated to a supply closet if Urotsuki calls for help in his room too much, only escaping thanks to Urotsuki's Chainsaw effect.

Sniper-san's story appears to end on the clinic roof, where he jumps from the rooftop with his beloved rifle still with him. Doomsday, a dead-end world where he appears to happily sit with a large bird, seems to be him in the afterlife as, unlike before, his reactions to the effects become a lot more dream-like and fantastical, such as gaining a set of wolf ears or growing glowing horns.
