YNOproject:Expeditions

Expeditions are a YNOproject feature where locations within the games hosted on the site (save for those without the feature enabled) are selected at random and assigned to players as target destinations, listed along with corresponding amounts of expedition points (typically shortened to ExP) that are rewarded for successfully traveling to each destination in-game. The feature serves to incentivize the discovery and exploration of a wide variety of different locations across different games. The available expeditions are the same for all players, and may be completed either together with other players or by oneself.

The currently available expeditions can be viewed by clicking on the compass rose icon in the YNOproject interface.

Expedition Points

Expedition points are the standard reward earned by the player for completing periodic expeditions and Vending Machine Finder expeditions, with the amount earned correlated with the depth of the location of each expedition. Each week, players can accrue up to a maximum of 50 ExP. However, the total amount of ExP available from periodic expeditions and Vending Machine Finder expeditions each week exceeds 50 ExP, and any ExP that would be gained after this weekly maximum has been reached will simply be nullified. This fact allows players to skip out on some expeditions while still maintaining a position at the top of the ExP leaderboard category. Earning enough ExP will advance a player's Expedition Rank, which starts at Novice and currently ends at Diamond. Each ranking (with the exception of Novice) also grants their corresponding badge when reached.

Listed below are the ranks you can attain:

Expedition Types

Periodic Expeditions

Periodic expeditions are standard expeditions with associated ExP rewards that are made available at regular intervals. They are categorized as daily, weekend, and weekly expeditions. The games in which they would be selected depend on how popular they are on the basis of player counts.

These expeditions are described as follows:

  • Daily: Selected every day at 00:00 UTC, these are expeditions to two relatively-shallow locations. They yield 1~3 ExP.
  • Weekend: Selected every Friday at 00:00 UTC, and available through 23:59 UTC on Saturday, these are expeditions to medium depth locations. They yield 5 ExP.
  • Weekly: Selected every Sunday at 00:00 UTC, and available through 23:59 UTC on Saturday, these are expeditions to very deep locations. They yield 10 ExP.

Sometimes, bonus special expeditions themed to certain holidays or special occasions will be available for players to take on in addition to the usual assortment of periodic expeditions. The ExP yielded from these expeditions depend on the location depth.

Free Expeditions

If no periodic expeditions are available for a specific game, either because the player has completed all periodic expeditions currently available for the game, or because no periodic expeditions have been made available for the game during a particular stretch of time, then free expeditions will be made available for said game until new periodic expeditions are once again made available for it.[note 1] These expeditions, while they do not yield ExP, can be tackled endlessly, with a new free expedition being assigned to the player each time one is completed.

In a similar vein to periodic and Vending Machine Finder expeditions, the sequence of locations from which new free expeditions are assigned is fixed and global across all players, allowing them to choose whether to tackle these expeditions at the same time with other players who have achieved the same amount of progress through the sequence, or individually. Additionally, free expedition sequences are generated for and specific to each game, never assigning locations from a game other than the one that is currently being played. A new global sequence is generated for each eligible game at 00:00 UTC each day.

Free expedition completions are recorded in the Free Expeditions category on the leaderboards.[note 2] The seasonal rankings within this category are specific to each game.

Vending Machine Finder

Vending Machine Finder expeditions, of which only one is available at a time, task players with seeking out and interacting with a specific vending machine in-game. The only clues given by the interface to the vending machine's location are the game that the vending machine is located within, as well as an image depicting said vending machine within a narrow slice of its surrounding environment. Successfully locating and interacting with the vending machine yields 4 ExP. New Vending Machine Finder expeditions are made available every Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday at 00:00 UTC, replacing the previous expedition.

Location Tracking

Location tracking is a feature which automatically gives directions to an available periodic or free expedition. Directions for a specific expedition can be enabled by clicking on the compass icon on that expedition's entry in the Expeditions modal. Directions can only be enabled for one expedition at a time.

Directions are displayed underneath the player's current location at the top of the chat interface, and are given in the form of a list of locations that are immediately accessible from the player's current location. The listed locations constitute the beginning of potential routes from the player's current location to the expedition destination. Next to each of the listed locations is a number which indicates the length of the corresponding route in terms of number of worlds. The list is updated each time the player enters a different location.
