The Nightmare Inn is an area accessible from the guarded door in the Industrial Hotel's highest section, provided the player's money count is any set of fours.

Map of the Nightmare Inn

Features

Much like its preceding area, Nightmare Inn is a hotel-like place but with objects that suggest a distinctly Asian flavor, such as the presence of paper lanterns with tags. The area has been seemingly infested by vicious, blob-like monsters on the walls and ground, as evident upon arriving from Industrial Hotel, that cannot be killed--some even appear to be emerging from the walls through some kind of summoning circle etched on. The inn is also populated heavily by Jiangshi, who look at the player if Grave is equipped and are frequently seen obscuring important entrances, requiring the player to use the Chainsaw. Every corridor preceding a room appears to have a strange, rusty grid overlaid on the screen. The inn also appears to be placed in an apocalyptic setting, as a burning city is seen through its jagged windows.

In the main room, full of dining chairs and tables, all of the halls have been seemingly blocked-off, including by a Jiangshi. Only the hall in the southwest is accessible, where you are lead into a long corridor. By entering the doorway, you'll be lead to another dining area where the north walls have been adorned with stained-glass windows.

Chainsawing the Jiangshi blocking the northwest doorway of the main room leads you to another winding corridor, to a stairwell flanked by more Jiangshi. The proceeding room is yet another dining room, where the only northeast is blocked off and leads to the third floor. On this floor, chainsawing the Jiangshi blocking the northwest corridor will then lead you to a church of some kind, where there is no music playing. Traveling up north reveals some sort of ritual taking place among a group of demons and a blonde nun, praying over the body of a saw shark lain bare upon the carpet, perhaps as some kind of sacrifice. By interacting with the fence behind the nun, the camera pans upward to reveal another image of a saw shark (likely crucified) over a shrine. Using the Glasses will turn the nun's face black and reveal the demons' leech-like mouths before Urotsuki. Chainsawing the nun will make the demons go after Urotsuki at a fast pace, forcing her to wake up upon getting caught.

Going back to the third floor's main room, the northeast corridor leads to a yet another set of dining tables overlooking a balcony, to show a view of the city's skyline overlooked by a red sun with a prominent eye. A line of Jiangshi can be seen here overlooking the balcony. A table in the upper center of the room can be found with a skull and some kind of candlestick.

Trivia

  • The event tile for the Nun is internally named "Tot tsi ttog". If written backward, this means "Gott ist tot", meaning "God is dead" in German. This is apparently a famous quote by a renowned German philosopher named Friedrich Nietzsche.
