Similarly to Megusuri Uri and Midori Tokuro, Hakoko can be revived by interacting with the Gray Sweatshirt Boy in the Bleak Future.

A character that peeks out of a box in the eyeball shop of the Visine World. She does not move and has ties to Megusuri Uri.

Interaction

When Hakoko is first interacted with, she will hide herself inside her box, leaving only her hair showing. Interacting with her again will lead her to peep out for a second before retreating once more. Once interacted with, she will stay hidden by default until certain effects are used (which will in turn unlock Wallpaper #114).

She reacts to the following effects:

  • Fairy - Comes back out automatically when equipped. This will put her back in her visible state.
  • Insect - Comes back out when used. This will also put her back in her visible state.
  • Wolf and Wolf/Bike - She will quickly hide upon hearing the howl.
  • Chainsaw - She will slowly retreat back into the box when it is equipped.

If Hakoko is killed with the chainsaw, only her box will remain and she will not come back. When Megusuri Uri is killed while inside the eyeball shop however, walking into Hakoko's room will reveal that she has turned into a large, mutated eyeball monster akin to those in Visine World. While in this form, she cannot be killed and attacking her will only cause her to let out a squeak.

Note: A common misconception is that killing Hakoko will lock the Eyeball Shop until she is revived. This is not true, as only by killing Megusuri Uri or Midori Tokuro is the shop locked upon exit.

Similarly to Megusuri Uri and Midori Tokuro, Hakoko can be revived by interacting with the Gray Sweatshirt Boy in the Bleak Future. There is also a 1/10 chance to revive either Megusuri Uri or Hakoko when entering Visine World from the Art Gallery.

Appearance

Hakoko appears as a small child with exceedingly long, black hair and blue eyes. Although most of her body is hidden inside of her box, she appears to be wearing a gray garment of some kind. Her box is colored brown and features a red pattern on it.

Her monster form that she turns into when Megusuri Uri is killed, however, is that of a many-armed red blob covered with orange and blue eyes that ooze some sort of fluid.

Trivia

  • Even if Hakoko is killed beforehand, the red monster will still spawn upon the death of Megusuri Uri. This means it is unknown if the monster is actually another form of Hakoko or not.
  • Megusuri Uri may be considered Hakoko's caretaker or provider. Given that she does turn into a monster, it may be that he gives her some form of treatment to prevent her from taking this form, which would explain why she only transforms when he is killed.
  • Hakoko bears some similarities to Kisume from the Touhou Project series, given that they are both small, gray robed children who reside in a container of some kind.
  • Hakoko translates to 'Box girl' or 'Box child'
