Spiral Purgatory is an area accessible through the mouth of an orange serpentine creature in Burning Building or from the twisted orange and cyan tendrils in Glass Shards Path.

Features

Spiral Purgatory is a labyrinthine area wherein all of the walls and floors are made out of repeating yellow spirals.

Entering from Glass Shards Path, heading slightly southwest, northwest at the first fork, and then northeast from the vending machine, you can find a small egg-like building with a girl inside of it resting in the fetal position, known as the Girl in the Cocoon. A large mass of spirals grows from the right side of her head into the walls of the surrounding chamber. Interacting with her will activate the fullscreen Girl in the Cocoon event, in which the camera will slowly pan from her feet up to her face. Then, she will regard Minnatsuki by opening her one eye, smiling, and then closing her eye again. This event can only be viewed once per spirit world session.

Choosing to kill her using the Soulfire eidolon will activate the Dead Spiral Purgatory event. A large, charred mess will be left behind where she once sat, and exiting the building will reveal that the entire world has become darkened. The Lumen and Soulfire eidola alleviate the darkness, but not by much.

In the northwest corner of the map is tunnel in a raised lump that connects to Burning Building. Southeast from the Burning Building entrance you can find a set of stairs that will lead you to Starry Docks B.

In the southeast corner of the map, you can find a pair of orange and cyan tendrils that are twisted together. They will transport Minnatsuki to Glass Shards Path upon interaction.

Trivia

  • Given the claustrophobic labyrinthine nature, the droning background music and the fact that there's a set of stairs that leads to one half of a larger "docks" world, this area could be seen as a homage to Yume Nikki's Hell.
