Floating Catacombs is an area accessible from a tunnel in the Viridescent Temple.

Features

The Floating Catacombs, being a deeper part of the Viridescent Temple, is a dark, dreary expanse with cubic structures like in the aforementioned world, though those found here are covered in thick, tangled vines. As the name implies, some of these structures are floating in mid-air, and a few feature neon-green mushrooms growing out of them,

By heading slightly north and then immediately east in the main area, you will come across a staircase to a floating cube. Interacting with it will cause the green mushrooms to stop glowing, and backtracking at this point will reveal a monstrous mass of red, purple, and blueish swirls, eyes, and arms emerging from the bottom of the staircase. Going down into the mass will take you to Fossil Lake.

Shortly southwest of the aforementioned staircase leading to the floating cube, you can find a cube serving as passage to a small area filled with glowing mushrooms. Interacting with/bumping any side the cube or using the Fairy effect while nearby will cause the passage entrance to glow briefly, making it easier to locate. Among the mushrooms are some hallucigenia-like worms that quickly disappear with approaching footsteps, but remain if the Fairy or Spacesuit effect is used. Entering this area will give you Wallpaper #284 and Wallpaper #381.

If you have the Bike and Wolf, you will also obtain Wallpaper #326 upon entering the area.

Trivia

  • In Japanese, this world is named after the strangler fig, a plant that grows by anchoring itself to trees and eventually enveloping them (sometimes killing the host), though it is also known to grow on structures and buildings.
