Miso Soup Dungeon is an area accessible from Bacteria World.

Annotated map of Miso Soup Dungeon

Features

Miso Soup Dungeon is a massive indoor area, containing many different paths. As the name suggests, the area is themed around miso soup; the walls and floor are yellow, and many large bowls of miso soup with faces can be seen, as well as smaller ones walking around. The large ones sometimes have plants growing out of them or shadows resting in the soup.

After climbing up the ladder from the Bacteria World entrance, you will immediately be greeted by a branching path, allowing you to go west, east, or north. When you first arrive here, the north room will contain nothing of interest, holding only a soup bowl, a green face on the wall, and a patch of red eyes on a blue background. Interact with any of the teleporters seen in this world to unlock three more of them in this room. The left and right ones are one-way shortcuts to other teleporters; the top one leads to a short passage to Heart Maze. Walking to the left wall of this room reveals an NPC floating outside of it.

Going east from the first room, then south, Urotsuki will arrive in a room with two northern exits, one of which she just came from, and two southern exits. The northeast exit leads to a tiny room with a white whale, which takes her to Whale Heaven.

Continuing southeast past the tiny room and then taking the next western exit leads to a room with more patches of red eyes on the wall and a pedestal of miso soup in the middle that transports Urotsuki to Dusty Grey Town.

Taking one of the southern exits instead leads to a much bigger room containing many large bowls of miso soup. Taking the west exit from here and climbing down a long ladder leads to a platform with many stick figure humanoids raising one leg. There is a teleporter in the middle of the platform. Interacting with it transports Urotsuki to a longer platform featuring many tall grey objects. Some odd red devices stand in front of the wall, and some statues with red eyes, possibly modeled after Chasers, can be found. At the top right of the platform is an object that isn't greyed out; equipping the Penguin effect reveals a nose on its top half, and interacting from then takes Urotsuki to Atlantis, in front of Seanut. This connection is one-way.

After taking either exit from the Whale Heaven subarea, Urotsuki will arrive in a narrow horizontal hallway. Entering the door in the north sends her to a soup party, starting in a long corridor with lines of rapidly spinning miso soup NPCs. This place has different music and applies an orange tint to the screen. The room at the end of this corridor speeds up the music and causes the tint to begin periodically weakening and strengthening. In this room are more miso soup NPCs, as well as two gigantic bowls without faces that seem to be wearing some kind of skirt that sell you soup for 100 Yume (夢) each when interacted with. If you interact with the left one, drinking the bowl will cause it to soar across the screen upside-down. Interacting with the right one will make the bowl become sentient and disappear.

If you instead go left in the horizontal hallway, there will be a long ladder leading to a much more open section of the world. After climbing it, heading all the way west leads to a white teleport that connects to the Monochrome Throne Room subarea. If you instead head east and then go all the way north, you will encounter a walking soup bowl containing a white creature wearing a blue hat. Interacting with it takes Urotsuki to Expanded Corridors, provided she has visited that area once before. West of this connection is a long line of miso soup bowls with plants growing out of them.

If you instead divert west before reaching Expanded Corridors, there will be a stationary glitch effect. Touching it leads to Pink Life World; however, entering from this area changes that world's connections. If you walk into it from below, you will likely be placed right back in the dungeon. Head northeast to find the glitch effect again.

The various NPCS throughout the area have a lot of reactions to various effects, which will be listed below. Note that some of the interactions also include different sound effects when interacting with the NPCs.

Details:
[Show/Hide]
  • The wandering black bowls of miso soup will react to:
    • Boy: They will have a happy expression, move slightly faster, and laugh upon interaction. They will stop moving when it is used.
    • Chainsaw: They will have a mad expression and move faster.
    • Lantern: They will have a happy expression and can be interacted with to burn them without harming them.
    • Fairy: A sprout will appear in each of their bowls, and they will move faster. Interacting with them will make Urotsuki face forward and play a sound that can be heard when the lights turn back on in Meadow of Faces.
    • Spacesuit: They will have a happy expression, move slower, and dance in place. They will spin when it is used.
    • Rainbow: They will quickly run throughout the area, flocking to Urotsuki when it is used.
    • Glasses: An eyeball will appear in each of their bowls when it is used.
    • Telephone: They will have a happy expression and make a different sound upon interaction.
    • Eyeball Bomb: An eyeball will appear in each of their bowls, and they will stand still.
    • Penguin: The contents of their bowls will turn purple, and they will move slower and have an unhappy, purple expression. They will stare at Urotsuki and make a delayed, Fairy-like sound upon interaction.
    • Teru Teru Bōzu: A sprout will appear in each of their bowls, and they will move faster and follow Urotsuki. Interacting with them will play a different sound than usual and make Urotsuki face forward.
    • Marginal: Their bowls become bloody and inhabited by a white monstrous figure. Their faces will also turn red, they will move a bit faster, and using the effect will make them hop in place.
    • Bunny Ears: They will gain bunny ears and have quicker movements.
    • Crossing: They will rapidly spin in place and stop when it is used.
  • The long-legged, pink cups of miso soup will react to:
    • Chainsaw: They will appear to have a fearful expression, move faster, and flee.
    • Rainbow: The contents of their cups will become yellow, red, and blue.
    • Haniwa: They will become transparent and will not respond to interactions.
    • Marginal: A red eye will appear on their cups, and a waving white hand will rise from the soup. They will also move faster, follow Urotsuki, and make an odd sound upon interaction.
    • Crossing: They will gain the same wide-open, white-eyed expression as with Chainsaw, and they will rapidly spin in place and stop when it is used. They also move in a straight line for a certain amount of time upon interaction.
  • The black silhouettes with bowls of miso soup for heads will react to:
    • Chainsaw: The contents of their bowls will turn red, and they will flee.
    • Lantern: They will move faster and can be burned without harming them.
    • Invisible: They will stop moving and turn to face Urotsuki.
    • Plaster Cast: They will dance in place and move toward Urotsuki. Interacting with them will play the sound of a church bell, then Urotsuki will be bathed in a white light and "healed" of the effect, and then a wet soup sound will play.
    • Stretch, Child, and Marginal: They will move quicker and run toward Urotsuki when one of the effects is used. Interacting with them will make a loud soup-pouring sound.
    • Grave: They will dance in place and make an odd noise upon interaction.
    • Crossing: They will rapidly spin in place and stop when it is used.

Whale Heaven

Annotated map of Whale Heaven

Whale Heaven is a series of pathways in the sky made up of boxes. Several smiling white whales and clouds can be seen outside the path.

From the entrance, heading west, then going north and taking the first west, following the path until it turns south, then taking the west and the next north will lead to a purple teleporter. This takes Urotsuki to an area that seems to be a merge between Whale Heaven and the main area Miso Soup Dungeon, with the flooring and walls of the latter but the boxes, blue sky and whales of the former. Above the top wall are rows of white clouds. Entering the doorway leads to the horizontal hallway in the main area.

There is another exit of Whale Heaven leading to the same hallway. It can be reach by taking every west and south turn from the entrance until you see the top of some walls from the main area, then follow path around south to reach the whale that can be interacted with.

Monochrome Throne Room

The Monochrome Throne Room is a subarea made up of black and white tiles. All music stops upon entering. A little north of the teleport rune leading back to the main area, four white circles with faces and legs are arranged in a line. They wear red bandanas, and make the sound of a baby crying upon being interacted with. In the middle is a black-haired person wearing regal garments and a crown, who plays a chiptune noise upon interaction.

  • Equipping the Chainsaw effect causes the circles to begin crying and the monarch to begin hopping urgently out of fear. While the circles can be chainsawed, attempting to do so on the monarch causes them to play an animation and unequip the effect.
  • Equipping the Rainbow effect causes the monarch to become excited and hop slowly. Interacting with them makes the screen flash and plays a sound.
  • Equipping the Cake effect causes the monarch to become excited and hop. Interacting with them makes Urotsuki flash and plays a sound.
  • Equipping the Tissue effect causes the circles to begin crying and the monarch to gain a sad face. Interacting with the circles causes them to play a higher pitched crying noise than usual, and rain will start for a moment before stopping again. The monarch does the same, but plays a different noise.
  • Equipping the Crossing effect causes the monarch to begin wandering around the room. If its effect action is used, they will look forward and gain a happy face while stopped by it.

Trivia

  • Using the teleporter from Whale Heaven to the merged area changes the music back to the main area's, but entering the merged area from the hallway causes it to switch to Whale Heaven's music. Because of this, if you enter from the hallway and then leave again, you can play the latter's music in the main area.
  • The Bat effect cannot be used in this area.
