The Witch of Hatred is a recurring NPC in aediorugap's work.

Interaction

The Witch of Hatred, despite her name, appears to be outwardly bright, characterized by her pink attire, love for sweets, and association with heart symbols. However, when the Glasses effect is used near her in the Love Lodge, she appears to be deeply disturbed. As shown through the events in Cold Summer Flames, she has a fear of penguins and some sort of connection to the Witch of Charity, who resembles her.

Love Lodge

Within the Witch's House subarea of Love Lodge is where the Witch of Hatred lives. The Witch's House, as well as the area before it, are decorated with bright pink imagery mostly involving hearts, which match the witch's clothing. Depending on what effects are equipped, she will react differently and make different noises when interacted with:

  • If no effects are equipped, she merely wanders around her room, making a sparkling noise when interacted with.
  • When the Cake effect is equipped, she will happily follow Urotsuki around and the sparkling noise she makes increases slightly in pitch.
  • If the Boy effect is equipped, she will angrily turn her back towards Urotsuki and make a sound resembling clanging metal.
  • Equipping the Glasses effect will cause her to quickly twitch as a large shadow covers her face, causing her eyes to glow red. Here, she appears to be angry, sad, or traumatized.
  • When the Child or Fairy effects are equipped, she will chase Urotsuki around and trap her inside the cage inside her room upon being caught.
  • She appears to be frightened by the Penguin effect, even more so than the Chainsaw effect, running away at a faster speed and making a descending sparkle noise when interacted with. This odd reaction will become more understandable upon visiting another world she appears in.
    • If she is killed with the Chainsaw effect, she will give Urotsuki a heart-themed menu theme that can be removed by either waking up or using the Eyeball Bomb effect. It can be reobtained by chainsawing her again.

Notably, a refrigerator leading to Refrigerator Tower can be found inside the Love Lodge. This will also become important for the same reason as the Witch of Hatred being afraid of the Penguin effect.

Hatred Palace

The portrait found in Hatred Palace.

Much like the Witch of Hatred herself, the name of Hatred Palace greatly contrasts with its appearance, being decorated with hearts, sweets, and flowers.

The Witch of Hatred makes an appearance within the Hatred Palace, though not physically. Near the top of the area, a portrait featuring her alongside the Witch of Charity can be found with a two-colored heart between the two. The two appear to have some sort of connection, though any sort of connection they may have is purely speculative.

If the in-game season is winter, the player can use various effects near the portrait to get to Digital Heart Space, where a figure resembling the Witch of Charity can be found. Using the Teru Teru Bōzu effect to make it snow before equipping the Penguin effect will cause a hole to appear before the portrait, leading to the aforementioned area.

Cold Summer Flames

Upon interacting with the Witch of Charity in Cold Summer Flames, Urotsuki will be taken to the Coldest Summer event, which starts with a path housing a semitransparent version of the Witch of Hatred at the end. Here, she appears distressed, blocked by multiple translucent figures resembling the Witch of Charity. At the very end of the path, the corpse of the Witch of Charity can be found as a penguin-like monster stands before her, close to an open refrigerator. If the Teru Teru Bōzu effect is used to make it snow, then the Witch of Hatred will disappear.

Upon using the Teru Teru Bōzu effect to walk in place of the Witch of Hatred before interacting with one of the translucent figures, Urotsuki will be taken to a version of the Witch's House, with the Witch of Charity replacing the Witch of Hatred. If she is killed with the Penguin or Chainsaw effects here, the penguin monster that supposedly killed her will appear in the house. Interacting with the monster leads to another path where the Witch of Hatred can be found.

At the end of the final path, the Witch of Hatred can be found facing multiple penguin monsters, who surround the Witch of Charity.

Appearance

The Witch of Hatred wears a pink top with puffy white sleeves, decorated with a heart on her chest, paired with a red and white skirt with black stripes. She wears red shoes and a white cap with a blue brim, sporting a design with two hearts.

Her pink hair is done into twintails, held with red ribbons. She has red eyes and slightly blushed cheeks. She appears to be around the same height as Urotsuki's sprite.

Theories

As shown in both Hatred Palace and Cold Summer Flames, the Witch of Hatred has a connection with the Witch of Charity, a second witch that resembles her, albeit with a primarily blue palette. Their connection is unknown, though it is theorized that they are siblings.

During the Coldest Summer event, it is shown that the Witch of Charity was killed by a group of penguin monsters, who blocked the Witch of Hatred from reaching her (revealed by using the Glasses or Teru Teru Bōzu effects upon finding her during the event). Even at the end of the event, the spirit of the blue witch is trapped by the penguins before Urotsuki is captured by the larger penguin monster and sent to the Refrigerator Tower, an area connected to the Love Lodge via a blue heart.

It appears that the Witch of Hatred may have gotten her name from experiencing such a traumatic event, causing her grief or bitterness towards the penguin monsters while simultaneously having a fear of them. Her reaction to the Fairy and Child effects, resorting to keeping Urotsuki in a cage upon being captured with these effects, may be her way of keeping a memory of the Witch of Charity, as these two effects make the Witch of Charity happy when equipped near her during the Coldest Summer event.

Currently, the Witch of Charity appears to be frozen within the Snowy Suburbs, as a frozen figure resembling the witches can be found within the only accessible house in the area, even being named the same name when viewed in the RPGmaker editor. Notably, the house also faintly plays the same music as the Witch's House.
