Topdown Dungeon is an area accessible from a purple Teleport Rune in the Nefarious Chessboard.

Map of Topdown Dungeon.

Features

Topdown Dungeon is large 8-bit style dungeon viewed from above. This maze-like dungeon contains several paths, dead ends, and strange NPCs throughout. While exploring, there will sometimes be the mysterious sound of a ringing telephone. Some of the boxes can be pushed to reach different parts of the dungeon.

While in the dungeon, Urotsuki has a unique retro styled topdown sprite as well as a unique menu icon. Holding interact while here will make her spin and sit in place facing left. Pressing either Z or X in this state will make the player able to move her again. No effects can be equipped while in this area.

Starting from the Nefarious Chessboard teleporter, there are the following points of interest in the dungeon:

  • Heading all the way north leads to a witch that transports you to Checkered Towers. Going all the way east from here will take you to a locked door with a strange symbol on it.
  • Heading all the way east from the teleporter will eventually lead to another section of the dungeon. Heading north here will bring you to a room with stairs to FC Basement.
  • Heading south two rooms, east one room, and then continuing south will lead to an oblique area with a different style. Urotsuki's appearance will also change. Here you can find some creatures, including ones from the Realm of Dice and Checkered Towers, an inaccessible Teleport Rune, and a doorway to Retro Dungeon.
  • Going north from the oblique area's entrance will reveal a door that can be unlocked by entering from the Legacy Nexus. Inside is a rotary phone that connects there.
  • Making your way to the southeast corner of the dungeon leads to a room with a flight of stairs leading to Monochrome GB World.
  • Two rooms north from the above connection is another flight of stairs, which leads to another room leading to the Realm of Dice.

Directions

If the connection from Urotsuki's Dream Apartments to Legacy Nexus is active:

Trivia

  • This area was likely inspired by the Dungeons in the first Legend of Zelda game.
  • Before version 0.122f, the area's BGM was a version of the music in Gakuran-kun's area.
