The main area of Digital Desert is a large, looping space. The floor is covered in green tiles that are made up of binary digits that behave in various ways, often arranged into larger shapes or patterns. Some tiles feature a single, rapidly alternating large digit, while others are made up of many smaller digits. In tiles that feature small digits, they will either all alternate rapidly as well, or they scroll horizontally in directions that alternate by row. In addition, the space is populated by numerous green, bouncing smiley faces that wander randomly.
South of the entrance to the passage that leads to Paper Plains is a collection of binary floor tiles arranged into the shape of the number ten. In the center of the zero digit is a pair of candles. Stepping between the candles will cause them and the surrounding environment, with the exception of the zero pattern on the floor, to slide to the south until offscreen. Simultaneously to this, the background music will cut out, Minnatsuki's green tint will fade away, and the green line pattern screen overlay will disappear. The space outside the zero digit will now be impassable, save for a short cul-de-sac-shaped pathway of binary tiles that now branches off of the zero to the north. An open doorway hovers above the circular end of this new pathway; interacting with it will place Minnatsuki in the Bad Omen City subarea.
Bad Omen City
Equipping the Lumen eidolon here will unlock the "Blinking Night" book cover and cause the scrolling parallax pattern displayed upon the buildings to be replaced with a much more colorful one.
