Features

The Rainy Apartments are a melancholic, linear area. After waking up from the Virtual City entrance, Urotsuki finds herself on a couch underneath a bed in a small apartment, with a computer displaying a light blue screen. There is a person sleeping under the covers in the top bunk of the bed that has a chance to give 100 when killed. Heading right from here will lead you to a balcony overlooking a gloomy city area, with the Twin Mountains barely visible in the background. Here, Shimako can be found with a striped shirt, slippers, and a seemingly invisible body, brushing her teeth on the chair on the balcony, and she cannot be killed in any way. Using the Teru Teru Bōzu or Rainbow effect anywhere within the apartment will reduce the rain to a slow drip.

Going left from the bedroom will take you through a hallway with two doors that cannot be opened. In this room and the previous one, there are full-length mirrors which show Urotsuki a reflection that's not her own, and rather depict a tall woman resembling the Stretch effect, perhaps even Urotsuki herself with realistic proportions, contrasting her normal, chibi art style.

Further down the hall, you will be led into a walkway with a fence replacing the north wall, from which you can view more of the cityscape surrounding the apartments. Potted plants are arranged haphazardly around the middle of this hallway. Continuing to the left will take you past a closed elevator door, and then to a metal staircase outside the apartment. Taking either the upwards or downwards stairs leads to an empty, looping void with a staircase in it. If you take the upwards stairs and then try to go upstairs in the sub-map at least once, a chair should be present in the void. If the Teru Teru Bōzu effect has been used to stop the rain, the chair vanishes. It returns upon starting the rain and re-entering the sub-area. Otherwise, if you take the downwards stairs and then try to go downstairs several times (around 8 times), a corpse laying in a mess of splattered blood should be present in the void. This is presumed to be the corpse of Shimako--curiously, it even reacts to the Telephone effect by writhing slightly. By going upstairs 8 times instead, you can find a stool or chair at the "top floor", implying that she had jumped to her death.

After returning from viewing the stairs, the elevator door in the previous room will open as you walk past. This makes the music fade out, as well as causing minor changes at certain places in the apartment, such as Shimako disappearing from the chair on the balcony, and the shadowy figure no longer appearing in any of the apartment's mirrors. In addition, opening the elevator will also make Shimako move to the loft bed if she is present in the current visit; an animation of her shifting under the covers can be viewed by walking on her bed or using the Telephone effect. Entering the elevator leads you to a black area with two construction signs on either side of you, indicating that this world will receive a connection or extension in the future.

You can return to Virtual City by falling asleep on the couch under the bed, but this will only work before the elevator doors have opened.

Trivia

  • There is a full graphic of Shimako sitting in the chair on the balcony, brushing her teeth. However, in the game's current iteration, she is semi-transparent, making her difficult to see in full.
