*In version 0.120, the Chess World was changed to no longer be non-looping vertically by removing a fence as well as a small building that shared the wallpaper of the Monkey Mansion's non-basement interiors. This change resulted in the connections to both the mansion's basement and the March of Progress events being distanced further south from their previous positions. Prior to this update, the subarea's entrance and exit was some hard-to-identify-and-describe-NPC, alongside a monkey butler standing near the southern-outcropping and a door on the building that both appeared to serve no function. Some chess pieces were shuffled around and added to make up for the empty space left over by the aforementioned removals, and a toucan that used to be some distance directly north of the March of Progress connection was removed entirely.

Chess World is an open, eerie area, accessible from the basement of the Monkey Mansion.

Map of Chess World.

Features

The entrance to the area is marked by a weird fetus-like monkey from Monkey Mansion, of which returns you to the aforementioned area. The whole area is dotted with dozens of chess pieces, fittingly. A single, long piece of railing stretches horizontally across the entire area, requiring the player to head south from the entrance to reach the north side of the border. Near the upper side of the fence, two massive figures of royalty monkey-like beings can be found, each with swapped color palettes indicating their place of royalty, as well as a large bottle. Also, alongside the fence lies two chess pieces, marked by more beside them, that the player can walk through.

Through the two chess pieces, a tiny section of hallway designed like the Monkey Mansion leads to a single room with a throne, which Urotsuki can sit on to trigger an event parodying the famous March of Progress drawing, which depicts human evolution. When the event ends, the player is returned to the same room, which is now entirely empty.

Trivia

The Chess World prior to 0.120
  • In version 0.120, the Chess World was changed to no longer be non-looping vertically by removing a fence as well as a small building that shared the wallpaper of the Monkey Mansion's non-basement interiors.
