Neon World is one of the twelve original locations accessible directly from the Nexus.

Map of Neon World

Features

Neon World is a large, labyrinthine world that is composed of a series of small, brightly-colored rooms and wide-open plazas. Unlike other worlds that are sparsely populated, Neon Creatures are abundant here. The soundtrack has a faster tempo than other worlds, and the flashing floor tiles make sounds when walked over. In some rooms, there are neon sculptures present that resemble animal motifs found in Andean textiles.

The door that connects this world to the Nexus stands in the center of a large plaza. This plaza is the size and shape of a 3x3 grid of small rooms merged together, the walls separating them removed. By heading south from the southeastern corner of this plaza, Madotsuki will reach another large plaza, albeit smaller than the one before, comparable to a 2x2 grid of small rooms.

By instead heading to the first small room directly south from the Nexus entrance, and then moving two rooms over to the west, Madotsuki will wind up in a small room with an open doorway in the northern wall. This doorway will take Madotsuki to Neon Tile Path.

There is a unique NPC who slowly wanders this world, known as the Neon Parrot. Upon interacting with them for the first time, this NPC will grant the Neon effect. The initial location of the Neon Parrot is a room that can be reached by heading to the first small room directly west of the Nexus entrance, and then moving two rooms over to the north.

Trivia

Neon World's unused background.
  • There is an unused background that would have appeared in Neon World. An event moves the background in a unique circular form. This event was disabled by requiring a second party member to activate, but otherwise functions normally. The background does not tile properly, creating visible edges.
  • There are a total of 137 NPCs in this world, making it the second most populous location in the game after the Stabbing Room, which has 182.
  • Before version 0.10, Neon World was a completely open area with no walls, although still abundant with creatures. The world was gradually updated over the course of the game's development before being completely transformed into a more maze-like area.
  • Two variants of the Neon Statues were scattered around the map in version 0.09, but were removed when the world was redesigned in version 0.10.
