The Monochrome Street is an area accessible from the streetlight with two lights on its right side and one on its left in Red Streetlight World.
Features
The Monochrome Street is a large silhouetted area, decorated with large white arrow-shaped objects with their darker reflections visible on the ground. When Urotsuki is on the black background her sprite will be all white, and it will be all black on the gray shadows.
There are also silhouettes of various NPCs in this area, which only appear if the areas where the original NPCs appear have been visited. The silhouettes include a friendly Shadow Lady, a Beret Sister and Sweets Musume, among others. These NPCs react to effects the same way their normal counterparts do. For example, the Sweets Musume will jump and chase you around if you use the Cake effect, and talking to the scarecrow girl will teleport you to The Docks if the Provost-san mask is currently equipped. Similarly, equipping the Chainsaw effect and getting caught by the Shadow Lady will transport to you to the Red Brick Maze.
Three of the large arrow objects have doors on their shadows. One takes you to Red Streetlight World, which can also entered from the back side to enter the Everyman Passage, one to the Shinto Shrine, and one will take you to the Mask Shop, which you can also enter from the back side to view an event.
An oddly shaped white skewed rectangle with three half-circle holes on all sides has a white door that leads to the Animated Hub. To find it, take a few steps down from the Red Streetlight World entrance and continue left or right. After you enter the Animated Hub, interact with the right side of the object to access the main area.
Everyman Passage
The Everyman Passage (チェスボード通路, Chesubōdo Tsūro, Chessboard Passage) is a long, horizontal, chessboard-themed corridor, featuring multiple chess pieces and tall, ominous statues of men wearing ties. Some of these statues may lack their ties, noses, mouths or even heads; some may also be slightly shorter than the rest, or have long extremities. From Monochrome Street, Urotsuki starts on the right end, and on the left end is a connection to the Nefarious Chessboard.
Spoilers:
There is a hidden path that can be accessed at random if starting all the way from the left side (from Nefarious Chessboard, essentially). While passing the third rook, there is a chance that you will be looped back to the second rook, and there is a chance you will proceed as usual. It's difficult to tell when this happens as it's visually seamless. If you are looped back enough times in-succession (around 4-6 times, with a seemingly 1/3 chance each time), a path extending to the north will be open near the figure with the extremely long head, ending with a figure with a bloody opening at its base. Interacting with the opening pans the camera upwards and causes a screen transition, resulting in the player arriving in the entrance of Underneath on top of a bloody spot, where there is typically a red sea angel that needs to be chainsawed in order to progress.
If specifically attempting to access this secret, start from the left end; if you reach the figure with the long head and don't see the passage, go all the way back to the left end and try again.
The one-way connection to Underneath.
Directions
- The Nexus → Red Streetlight World → Monochrome Street
Trivia
- The Beret Sister found in this world is the blue version, as she behaves the same way she does normally in the Snowy Pipe Organ, running away from Urotsuki when equipping either the Boy or Gakuran effect, and switches places with you when either of those effects are equipped.
- Unlike her standard counterpart however, she does not react to the Wolf effect.
