The Butterfly Forest was a world once accessible from several areas, including the Tricolor Room and Red Lily Lake under certain conditions. As of 0.121c, all connections to it have been severed, and it is now removed.
Features
The Butterfly Forest, despite being quite small, was very dense in events and interactions, and contained many connections to other areas. It housed seven uniquely-colored butterflies, each floating around a drawing of a butterfly of the same color on the ground near them. Each would teleport Urotsuki to a different area, some of them wholly separate worlds entirely (not all of these butterflies would be visible or able to be interacted with upon first entering the world, however). The same Ninetails from the Fantasy Library could also be found wandering around the area.
From version 0.111e, to unlock the butterflies in this area, it's required to previously enter the Fantasy Library from the Cloud Floor by following the unlock conditions.
Red Butterfly
The red butterfly took the player to Red Lily Lake.
Cyan Butterfly
The cyan butterfly took the player to Blue Orb World.
Green Butterfly
The green butterfly was unlocked by unlocking the Pink Butterfly. It took the player to a secluded cliff-like area with either a waterfall or a lake in the background. Approaching the edge would pan up the screen, showing more of the waterfall, whereas the lake would allow the player to climb up and hop down a large rock formation at the side of the area.
Yellow Butterfly
The yellow butterfly took the player to a small lake with some fireflies. Until you interacted with it for the first time, it was only visible while the Bug effect is equipped. If one killed the piano player in the book (White Butterfly) and then returned to this area from Fountain World, it was likely that there would be no more fireflies in this area and the music would change to something much more somber. It also may have snowed in this area.
Blue Butterfly
The blue butterfly took the player to Constellation World. It only appeared after you visit that world at least once.
Pink Butterfly
The pink butterfly took the player to the xylophone path area in Chaos World. In previous versions, it could be unlocked after doing the following:
- Get teleported to the Butterfly Forest from Red Lily Lake by interacting with one of the angel silhouettes using the Glasses effect (The angel silhouettes are unlocked by chainsawing the white creature in Neon Candle World).
- Go to Red Sky Cliff and use the Invisible Effect to jump from the cliff.
After doing this, interacting with the wisp at the middle-bottom of Cloud Floor two times in a row would allow access to Chaos World and unlock the Pink Butterfly.
White Butterfly
The white butterfly took the player to the Tricolor Room.
Directions
- The Nexus → Graveyard World → Red Lily Lake → Candy World → Constellation World → Innocent Dream → Tricolor Room → Butterfly Forest
After visiting Innocent Dream at least once:
- The Nexus → Urotsuki's Dream Apartments → Tricolor Room → Butterfly Forest
Trivia
- There were no footstep sound effects in this area unless you were walking on a butterfly.
- Before 0.111c patch 1, this world had an Orange Butterfly that lead to the Butterfly Passage, serving as a connection with Whipped Cream World.
- The red butterfly once showed a brief scene with a shadow of the Ninetails in the Splash Streetway.
- In previous versions prior to this area's reimplementation in 0.117h, every time you visited this area you cut off one of Ninetails' tails with the Chainsaw, on the seventh attack they teleported you to the Red Sky Cliff; in addition, interacting with them with the Child effect equipped if Urotsuki has jumped off of the cliff, while all of her tails are intact, teleported Urotsuki to the Hidden Library.
- This world got removed in version 0.111h patch 4 before its return in 0.117h, although it was not mentioned in the changelog. It is now entirely removed with no chance of ressurection, according to the author, as of 0.121c.
- In the waterfall area, there was a chance that the background would be a starry sky instead, interacting with it would teleport you to Candy World. There was a black rabbit-like creature in here which reacted to various effects:
- The Fairy would make it turn semi-transparent and run away from you;
- Howling with the Wolf effect equipped would make it walk towards/around you; Eyeball Bomb, Twintails, Maiko, Bat, Penguin, Stretch, and some more effects did the same;
- Trying to equip the Glasses would make it break them, removing the effect from Urotsuki.
- The Polygon and Bike would cause it to run away at the same speed;
- The Spacesuit would cause it to move extremely slowly;
- Ringing the Telephone or using the Spring effect would make it jump, and the Telephone in general made it run faster;
- Turning completely invisible with the Invisible effect would cause it to turn into a blue wisp, similar to ones in Cloud Floor, as well as make it move faster;
- Equipping the Cast turned the creature white-green and made it walk towards Urotsuki, healing her and thus unequipping the effect;
- The Child effect turned it white-pink and made it walk towards you;
- The Marginal also made it run towards you (though MUCH faster);
- Lastly, the Bunny Ears allowed it to hop around rather adorably.
- If the white creature in Neon Candle World had been killed recently and the chaser in Red Lily Lake had been avoided, the rabbit would not be in the area.
- Prior to version 0.121, this world used to connect to Fantasy Library, before access to said area got completely cut off.
- Since 0.122i, this area, particularly MAP1398, has been replaced with Alrescha Sea.
