The Memory Room is where the game starts and ends. This world also acts as a return point from anywhere in the game, and can be accessed at any time.

Features

The Memory Room is a desolate world prior to completing the tutorial and only consists of a black room with a path to a door with a pink heart on it. An orange chair and a noose also await at the other end of the path. Interacting with the chair at any point will cause Muma to hang herself, ending the game and returning the player to the title screen.

A few more notable objects are added during and after the tutorial, however. These include the memories, which fill the room as they are collected throughout the game. The first of these memories, the Bubblegum memory, can be collected just south of the chair after the ability to return to the Memory Room is demonstrated during the tutorial, along with Coin #1. A piece of paper, which gives the ability to save the game's progress, will also appear on the eastern side of the path at this point in the tutorial.

Heading through the southernmost door leads to a corridor with several flights of stairs and pink arrows pointing back to the previously exited door. At the end of the stairs is a bright doorway that leads to First Steps when entered.

This world houses one of the hidden collectibles necessary to see one of the endings. Seeing the static is the key to unlock it.

One of the seven Empties can be obtained here by walking to the left of the Memory Room's door in the room with stairs. Doing so will lead to the area's dark surroundings, creating an invisible winding path that causes static to flash on the screen when traversed. At the end of the path is a door nearly identical to the Memory Room door, albeit with the pink heart substituted for a black one. Entering the door will lead to a ruined version of the Memory Room with a hanging duplicate Muma and an Empty. Picking up the Empty will cause Muma's figure to flash static before the screen also flashes static, returning Muma to the Memory Room. After the Empty has been obtained, this area can not be revisited.

Trivia

  • In older versions of the game, this world started to function as a traditional nexus world. Starting at v6.0, there was a connection to Lamp World to the right. Then beginning in v10.0, there was a connection to Cave Game to the left, which would be changed to being a connection to Red Sands A in v12.0. Finally in v15.0, there was a connection upwards to Unicorn Woods. This connection would be removed in v19.0, though. The other two connections would be removed in v30.0.
  • The author Ephy originally had an idea for the Memory Room where the Rose memory would grow depending on the amount of memories you had, finishing it's growth at 25 memories[1]. Once you reached 25 memories, the door would be blocked off and the areas that contained the last 3 memories would be accessed through the rose's vines. This would be partially implemented in v30.0 (the door being blocked off was not implemented yet as there were only 24 memories), and then removed in v31.1 likely because of the inclusion of empties in this version serving as the final content instead.

  • The Empty #1 in this world used to be collectible as a memory in v7.0. In this version, the black heart door would instead be found in Lamp World and this door would only appear if the lights were off. This door would take you to the fake start area seen with all empties, except that you start in front of the noose and hanging yourself would take you to Stare's Stairs. Getting down to the end of the staircase and entering the door would take you to another Muma which you can interact with and subsequently then punch to get the empty. Leaving this room then would finally take you back to the Memory Room.
