The Ghost World is seemingly the "other side", the dimension of ghosts and souls that exists parallel to the corporeal world. This could be Madotsuki's interpretation of what death or the afterlife is like. Considering other violent themes throughout Madotsuki's dreams, it is reasonable to assume she may think of the concept of death often.

It should be noted that some locations in ''Yume Nikki'' seem to parallel the afterlife, with Ghost World being one of them. The Sky Garden seems to represent Heaven, as it is peaceful in both its atmosphere and music, it lacks any "harmful" NPCs that may trap Madotsuki or send her to a completely different world, and is high up in the sky, as is often depicted with Heaven and its nature of being among the clouds. ==Interpretation==
*The fact that Madotsuki, a mortal, is able to enter the Ghost World is interesting, and it may indicate that she is associated all too comfortably with death. It may overshadow her suicide at the end of the game, or indicate that she is a murderer.
*In Japanese culture, white lilies are associated with death and funerals, which explains the method of reaching the Ghost world. It may be an manifestation of Madotsuki's suicidal thoughts in her subconcious. Indeed, the strange building that contains the Crossover Garden may in fact be a Mausoleum, and Madotsuki could be role-playing her burial.

Theories

The Ghost World is seemingly the "other side", the dimension of ghosts and souls that exists parallel to the corporeal world. This could be Madotsuki's interpretation of what death or the afterlife is like. Considering other violent themes throughout Madotsuki's dreams, it is reasonable to assume she may think of the concept of death often.

It should be noted that some locations in Yume Nikki seem to parallel the afterlife, with Ghost World being one of them. Hell seems to, as the name implies, represent Hell, as it is difficult to navigate through, filled with hostile Toriningen, and sports a droning soundtrack accompanied by bright red visuals. The Ghost World seems to represent a neutral landscape, as it takes elements from the two previously mentioned worlds. The area is dark and has an unsettling track playing as Madotsuki explores, yet there is nothing hostile in the area, not even NPCs that teleport Madotsuki, and is even home to a useful effect.

The NPCs found in Ghost World, known as Ghostmen by fans, highly resemble chromosomes. This resemblance is also shared with structures found in the Pink Sea and Barracks Settlement. This could relate to the various body themes in the dream world, particularly the abundance of strabismic characters throughout the game, with strabismus being linked to genetics.
