Most of the Dreams are Not Hers

Unlike Yume Nikki, most of Urotsuki's dreams don't shed any light on an overarching story. They're all random with absolutely nothing to do with each other. This is because they aren't originally hers. Unlike Madotsuki and most fangame protagonists, Urotsuki only lucid dreams for fun, not as a coping mechanism for trauma, and isn't actually a shut-in/hikikomori, which is backed up by all the endings in which she goes outside. As such, the only dreams that are hers are the ones in the Nexus; the rest are other people's dreams, all part of an entire dream world. This is paralleled by the fact that Yume 2kki is developed by many different artists and developers. Most of the NPCs are just other dreamers using effects, and a lot are there for the same reason as Urotsuki - to have fun.

Urotsuki (うろつき) is the protagonist of Yume 2kki. She was implemented on July 8, 2007. Prior to that, an unnamed male character was the protagonist, who now takes the role of an NPC in the Bleak Future event.

Physical Appearance

Urotsuki wears a purple plaid shirt with long sleeves and what appears to be a short white skirt, long black stockings, and brown shoes.

She has short, light-brown or blonde hair, with longer strands coming down from either side. Like Madotsuki (the protagonist from Yume Nikki), her eyes always seem closed. Urotsuki's age is ambiguous; this is due to various contradictory factors pertaining to a possible age from the game's overall landscape and underlying themes since the authors who contributed and are contributing to Yume 2kki all want to portray different things.

Her sprite maintains the typical chibi look similar to Madotsuki and many other Yume Nikki fangame protagonists.

Personality

Like Madotsuki, Urotsuki comes across as a hikikomori, refusing to leave her room; If you interact with the door, she'll shake her head in a number of ways. Her room is noticeably larger and more furnished than Madotsuki's, consisting of a TV, a game console, and a computer. The view from her balcony shows a pair of peculiarly shaped mountains surrounded by a large forest, suggesting that she lives somewhere quite rural.

Spoilers:

Relationships

There is little to no information about Urotsuki and her relationships with other characters, but it seems she knows (or knew) many people due to the large amount of humanoid characters in the game. There has been no hint of any relatives in the game.

Theories

 • All theories are merely speculation. The interpretation of game elements, Urotsuki's identity, and Yume 2kki itself is entirely up to the player; they may not necessarily reflect the development team's creative intentions or the summative viewpoint towards the game's elements. Furthermore, they are catalogued for documentation purposes; as such, they are presented in a neutral manner and will contain spoilers. To that end, please approach any and all discussion with utmost respect.

Trivia

 • In an earlier version of the game, specifically 0.036, numerous scrapped designs for Urotsuki could be seen on display in the Library. These scrapped versions still can be seen by interacting with 20, one of the initial authors of Yume 2kki, in the developer room. However, it has been stated by 20 that he isn't the creator of Urotsuki herself.
