Sentimental Komuro Michael Sakamoto Dada-sensei (センチメンタル小室マイケル坂本ダダ先生, Senchimentaru Komuro Maikeru Sakamoto Dada-sensei, or simply Masada, or Seccom Masada-sensei) is a character that inhabits the Spaceship.

Overview

Seccom Masada-sensei is a monochromatic humanoid character. They appear to wear a solid black suit or jumpsuit, alongside having black, medium-length hair and a pale face with strabismic gray eyes. When interacted with, they make a trilling, robotic noise, which is shared with the stair-shaped Neon Creatures.

They are found in the Spaceship, of which they appears to be the pilot. They are initially facing a large keyboard at the front of the ship, though they will slowly turn to look in all four directions at random intervals. If the Spaceship Crash event is activated, they will be frantically looking in all four directions, as if they are panicking, and will make a higher-pitched noise when interacted with. When the ship finally crashes on Mars, they will instead make a lower-pitched noise when interacted with, as if upset or dejected by the ordeal.

If the Knife effect is equipped near them, they will slowly back away continuously.

Manga version

Masada as they appears in the manga.

Seccom Masada-sensei is one of the main characters of the Yume Nikki manga. They are first seen after Madotsuki stabs her pen through her dream diary, which causes ink to flow out onto the desk and onto the floor, forming a pitch-black puddle that Masada emerges from. In order to enter the dream world, Masada must also sleep in a bed just like Madotsuki. It is also revealed that, in the dream world, Masada is a sort of puppetmaster that hides the world's effects, helping the watchful Mars-san who serves as their boss.

After being alerted of Madotsuki's increasingly violent tendencies, Masada goes to the Nexus and finds it in ruin. They summons their keyboard, which they play to summon a Paracas figure, which points the way to Madotsuki. They eventually confront her on Witch's Island and are nearly stabbed, though they isolate Madotsuki by cutting the island's dock in two with their own knife. However, they are suddenly stabbed by an umbrella, which is revealed to be the doing of Poniko (as Uboa).

During the story's climax, Poniko beheads Masada to limit their control and takes them to Mars-san. Poniko is tasked by Mars-san to stop Madotsuki's violent rampage, with Masada's head simply being turned into a window design on Poniko's shirt so that she can carry effects, similar to the design Madotsuki has. Upon finding Madotsuki in her bed, Masada urges Poniko to kill her, though Poniko instead attacks the dream diary with the Knife effect in order to free herself and Madotsuki from the dream world. This upsets Masada, who realizes the dream world will begin to collapse as a large creature made of Madotsuki's bad memories forms in the Nexus. Poniko is consumed by the monster, leaving Masada's head and the effects in Madotsuki's Room. Masada realizes they can use the dropped effects, flopping their disembodied head onto the Stoplight effect to regain their legs and kick the effects into the monster's mouth. This causes Madotsuki's memories to flood back, causing the monster to explode as the effects are dropped into the Nexus and Masada tumbles back into Madotsuki's room. Madotsuki awakens, frightened by seeing Masada's head in her room. Masada reassures her that she is still dreaming and tells her to go onto the room's veranda so that she can "wake up for real".

Trivia

A Dada, who inspired part of Seccom Masada's fan-given name.
  • The fan name Sekomu/Seccom Masada-sensei (セコムマサダ先生) is a shortened mash-up of their full given name, "Sentimental Komuro Michael Sakamoto Dada-sensei", which is a combination of various names:
    • Se - Sentimental, which references the "sentimental Uboa" meme.
    • Komu - Komuro, from Tetsuya Komuro, a Japanese keyboardist and music producer.
    • Ma - Maikeru, a Japanese transliteration of "Michael", from Michael Jackson, an American singer and songwriter.
    • Sa - Sakamoto, from Ryuichi Sakamoto, a Japanese keyboardist and composer.
    • Da - Dada, from an alien race from the Ultraman series that shares a similar appearance.
    • The honorific suffix -sensei is to imply that they are an authority figure, which is a popular depiction by fans.
  • Masada is one of only two characters who can walk backward in the game (the other one being Dave Spector), doing so when the Knife effect is equipped; just like Dave Spector, Masada's left-facing and right-facing sprites are swapped in their sprite set, giving the impression the sprite is looking left while the character is technically facing right. This is partly where the "Michael Jackson" part of the character's name comes from, as Masada's backwards walking resembles Jackson's "moonwalk" dance move. The other part comes from Masada's physical resemblance to Jackson, whose skin became pale due to vitiligo by the 1990s.
