Layout of the Spaceship

The Spaceship is a small deeper location consisting of the interior of a futuristic spaceship.

Features

The Spaceship consists of several pale, ovoid rooms and strange, post-modern furniture, giving the area a futuristic atmosphere. The sole resident of the Spaceship Seccom Masada-sensei, who appears to be the ship's pilot. Meowing with the Cat effect while inside the Spaceship will cause the view from the windows to briefly scroll in the other direction.

When the ship is entered, Madotsuki will be greeted by a small vestibule with a large eye on the wall and two bumps in the ground. Heading right will lead to the main room, which will cause the vestibule to be replaced by a small room will a single bump and a large window. The main room is where Seccom Masada-sensei resides, accompanied by a table and two chairs, his organ, and a wide view of space. The organ can be used to play nine different notes, though Masada blocks one of them. Making him move out of the way with the Knife or Cat effects will grant access to the fourth note, which is out of tune.

The room east of the main one is a simple bedroom with only a bed and a window. Getting into the bed and waiting for at least 15 seconds will have a 1/6 chance of starting the Spaceship Crash event. The event's start will be signified by the lights on the ship suddenly flashing red while an emergency alarm starts. The window reveals that the stars rush past the Spaceship, showing it is descending at an alarming rate. Heading into the main room will show Masada panicking. After fifteen seconds, a cutscene of the ship crashing onto Mars will play, after which the access ramp in the leftmost room will lower, allowing Madotsuki to explore the surface of the planet.

Directions

Although there are five normal beds found throughout the dream world, which all lead to the Staircase of Hands and eventually the Spaceship, the shortest route starts by using the bed in Madotsuki's Dream Room.

If the Poop Hair effect has not yet been obtained, the bed in Candle World is recommended, as it is always guaranteed under this condition.

The other routes are still fairly short as the remaining beds are all found in Nexus worlds.

Trivia

  • Oddly, using the Neon effect anywhere in the Spaceship (even after it has landed on Mars) will not tint the screen, although the sound that accompanies the Neon effect's action will still play.
  • Due to a bug, if Madotsuki sits down (by pressing the "1" key) just before the crash cutscene, she will have her head down when the sequence is over and the game will softlock, as the player cannot get up, open the menu or pinch awake. This bug also occurs when sitting down with the Long Hair and Blonde Hair effects.
    • Using other effect actions before the cutscene plays will also disable the action until the player travels to another room of the Spaceship. It is unknown if waking up is similarly disabled.
  • Normally, getting into the bed in the Spaceship would cause a black image to darken the screen. However, the English Steam release of Yume Nikki does not make use of the file correctly, so there are no visual changes once Madotsuki enters the bed.
    • A similar error occurs during the Spaceship Crash event: the typical fade-in and fade-out are absent in the English Steam release.
  • The Spaceship's background music is made up of the same sound that plays when touching any of the flowers in the Crossover Garden.

Theories

The Spaceship shares many similarities contents-wise with Madotsuki's Room, and could thus be a more abstract or dream-like interpretation of her room. Some similarities include:

  • Both rooms have a bed, table, and entertainment device, all of which are interactable objects within Madotsuki's real-world room (albeit the Famicom is a piano in the Spaceship's case).
  • Once the main room of the Spaceship is entered, the area can not be exited unless the Spaceship Crash event is activated with the bed. This could possibly parallel how Madotsuki can only exit her room by using the bed to go to sleep.
    • The area that replaces the Underground World connection once the main Spaceship room is a room with simply a window view of outer space. This room could possibly parallel Madotsuki's balcony, as one of its only uses is to simply view the outside world.
      • This room paralleling Madotsuki's balcony could also tie into the game's ending, as a set of stairs appears here once the Spaceship has crashed.
