YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- is an indie game developed by Kadokawa Corporation and Active Gaming Media Inc. that launched on Steam and Playism on February 23, 2018 for $19.99. It was released in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Korean and Japanese.

On its official website, the game is advertised to be a 3D adaptation of the original Yume Nikki, featuring familiar characters and locations returning. The new project was supposedly supervised by the creator of the original game, KIKIYAMA. YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- contains scrapped elements from the 2004 game as well as "brand new" content thought up by KIKIYAMA themselves.

On January 9, 2018, game distributor Active Gaming Media PLAYISM released Yume Nikki on Steam. On the same day, Kadokawa Corporation put up a website for a then unknown Yume Nikki-related project, with a countdown timer that ended on January 25, 2018. During the countdown, graphics of various characters appeared, also hosting a link to two videos (linked below). After the countdown ended, announcements for the upcoming game were put up.

On May 10, 2018, a second countdown went up on the game's official website, which ended on May 18, 2018, and a trailer for a ver. 2.0 was released, featuring new locations and effects from the original game (such as Block World and the Hat & Scarf effect), and was released on May 24, 2018.

On February 20, 2019, the game was officially released for the Nintendo Switch.

Official Description

"In its original form, RPG Maker darling YUME NIKKI was a divisively controversial work among fans. By contrast, YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- is a collaborative show of the utmost respect for auteur Kikiyama’s seminal release.

The RPG Maker team at Kadokawa has paired up with Active Gaming Media’s development team of ardent YUME NIKKI fans to bring you this modern indie title in the form of YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-. This diverging follow-up combines influences from the original game and other recent indie juggernauts to create something wholly unique.

YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- was created under the supervision and with full cooperation from the original creator, Kikiyama themselves. We hope it will help to create a whole new wave of fans, as well as push the envelope in terms of what RPG Maker games can become. Featuring an "all-new old" original character! Characters that have lay dormant in Kikiyama’s imagination (and design documents) surface 16 years after YUME NIKKI’s original release.|Description on steam for the announcement of YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-"
