Map of the Debug Room

The Debug Room (テストマップ, Test Map) is an entirely black room that can only be accessed by opening Yume Nikki with RPG Maker 2003 or by changing its map name (Map0001.lmu) to another map, like Madotsuki's Room (Map0003.lmu).

Features

This unique area contains many features for testing the game, changing dramatically across the multiple versions. A few notable objects can be found here against the black background:

  • The mirror gives you the Fat effect. The mirror was used in older versions of Yume Nikki for obtaining this effect, and was located in Hell. Garbage text may display if playing the English version due to the string being untranslated. Under normal circumstances, it should show up as "★ふとる★".
  • The Neon Creature plays a sound effect and stops the music, if any is playing. It acts like a typical NPC in-game, reacting as you would expect from the Cat, Knife, and Stoplight effects.
  • The FC World equivalent to Witch Madotsuki plays the 8-bit version of the effect sound and starts the Witch's Flight event, though you can't move during the event.
  • Nekoin gives you all of the effects and warps you to the White Desert B without a way to return. If you already have the effects, you will get duplicates.
  • The chair in the top right corner lets you save, but you won't be able to get out of the chair. Sometimes, the Witch's Flight event plays at the same time.
  • Going directly to the left of the traffic cone warps you to Mars-san, but you are put in a place where you cannot move. Waking up is possible if you were already in the dream world prior to entering the Debug Room.
  • In 0.06, having the debug party member in your inventory makes a picture of NASU appear in the top-right corner, making a walking noise.
  • Version 0.09 has many more exclusive properties, such as a cyan tile that teleports the player to many different areas, a flower from the Sky Garden internally labeled "Torii", the Buyo Buyo in its Barracks Settlement art style, and NASU having a 1/64 chance of being able to send you to the FC Overworld, if not, then to the FC Pyramids. If the debug party member is active, then the FACE pictures will disappear, but the Thing with the Quivering Jaw sounds will become faster.

Trivia

  • The name of this map was originally "テストマップ2" (Test Map 2) in 0.04, but was renamed to "テストマップ1" (Test Map 1) by version 0.06. This indicates that there may have been more debug rooms/test maps that were removed prior to 0.04's release.
  • In versions 0.04 and 0.06, there was an additional map simply called "階段" (Stairs) that tested how the player looked while using stairs. It was renamed to "テストマップ2" (Test Map 2) by 0.06, and removed by version 0.09.
  • In version 0.09, two pictures of FACE block the screen and prevent the player from accessing the room's features (only being disabled by hacking): one scrolls horizontally, and the other imitates the Thing with the Quivering Jaw, as if KIKIYAMA did not want the location to be visible or accessible.
