Oblique Hell is an area accessible from the train in Wooded Lakeside A and from a 3D sculpture-like NPC found in 3D Underworld

Features

Oblique Hell is a large, red maze heavily resembling the Hell world from Yume Nikki. The pathways of the world have depths, giving the impression of a deep, black void below the maze, and the screen lightly flashes black while traversing the area.

Various NPCs made up of 3D shapes roam in several parts of the maze and will take Urotsuki to new areas when interacted with. On the western side of the maze, two of these NPCs can be found that will take Urotsuki to the Glowing Tree Path and the Streetlight Docks. On the eastern side of the maze, two more can be found that will teleport Urotsuki to the Gnarled Tree Plaza in Wooded Lakeside B.

Two stairways can also be found at the northern and southern ends of the maze. The northern end has a headless, white body with a stairway to the White Lily Path before it. The southern end has a staircase leading to the Antiquated Bathhouse, which only appears under a specific condition. If the player's Variable 44 number has a remainder less than 5 after being divided by 28 (including 0), then the staircase will appear. However, if Urotsuki marks a position in the world using the Bat effect while Variable 44 is not in range, flying to that marked position will cause the staircase to disappear, even if she returns with Variable 44 in range.

At the center of the maze is a red, rusty Traincar that can be entered. Inside the Traincar, it will appear dusk. This is the Traincar which takes you to Oblique Hell in Wooded Lakeside A as a one-way connection.

First-Person Maze

Upon interacting with the 3D sculpture NPC that takes Urotsuki to the 3D Underworld's Glitch Nexus, the player can move right to instead enter a small area reminiscent of Yume Nikki's Mini Hell with a ghost Urotsuki at the center. This area can also be entered via a manhole in Wooded Lakeside B if you had used the Fairy effect to bypass the barrier. Walking into this ghost Urotsuki will change the player's perspective to first-person, making them navigate through the room while in this perspective to progress. Depending on where the player goes, they will end up on different sides of the ghost Urotsuki:

Trivia

First-Person Maze prior to 0.120d patch 16.
  • The entire area somewhat resembles a human body, with the center northern section resembling a face, the middle western and eastern section resembling hands, and the middle southern section resembling a uterus. The Antiquated Bathhouse staircase is located on the cervix while the White Lily Path figure is located on the brain. The center, where the traincar is located, may also vaguely resemble a heart or stomach.
    • The center also somewhat resembles a Henkei Shita from Yume Nikki, one of which is located in the game's Hell world, the area which Oblique Hell is based on.
  • Upon its first implementation, the First-Person Maze originally used tiles from the main area, with lower saturation. Following the release of 0.120d patch 16, this was changed to an inverted version of the main area with black pathways and red shadows.
  • Oblique Hell's map contains a formation in the shape of some sort of shield figure wielding a staff, which is also referenced in Static Noise Hell, created by the same author. This figure originates from Yume Nikki's Hell maze.
