Madotsuki's Room
These worlds are accessed from the original locations and have more depth and personality to them, containing more than simple backgrounds and random objects. The remaining half of the effects that the player must get are found within some of these places.
The place Madotsuki starts in, both in the real world and the dream world.

Number World
One of the most notable areas in the game, some consider the Number World to be the most unsettling. The floor is tiled with numbers, and creatures with a head and two legs plague the area.

Stabbing part of a wall that seems surprised will take you to Kyukyu-kun and then behind a door you will see a full screen event.

Neon World
It's a neon world. Accompanied by small flashing box-like creatures and odd aztec neon sign designs in the background in certain rooms, it is arguably one of the hardest areas to navigate. Yes, you can kill the flashy things.

Shield-folk World
A world with Shield-Folk inhabiting it. They do nothing. There's a building that leads to an invisible maze here, and near a mass of Shield-Folk there is a floating cat head that gives you the cat effect. Probably the easiest world to navigate in the entire game.

Candle World
It's a world filled with, yes, candles. There's a dwarf running around near the middle of the world, and if you can manage to catch him you get the "Midget" effect. There's a building that leads to the Tile World with the Lunatic Toriningen. Next to a Toriningen is a bed, and as many know this Toriningen is abnormally fast when made lunatic.

Eyeball World
It's a world filled with eyeballs and hands rising from the ground. There's a passage that leads to the Footprint Passage #1 in here, and also, a hand with an eye in it's palm gives you the "Medamaude" effect.

Graffiti World
This is a world with floor tiles that make different noises when stepped on. Here is the building that leads to the Mall/Department Store. When the world is looked at from a distance, it forms two Aztec-themed pictures. In this world is the "Bicycle" effect. At the end of the "trail" formed by one of the pictures is the woman's bathroom. This world is also known as the Musical Tile World.

Mural World
A world with multiple murals. In here you can find the "Blonde Hair" and "Long Hair" effect giving mouth-monsters. Also in this world is the manhole that leads to the Sewers.

Snow World
A snowy world with areas of trees. Around this world, there is a Yuki-onna (Snow woman) that gives you the "Yuki-onna" effect. There are multiple igloos in this world, one leading to the Pastel Shoal world. There is also a bed in this world.

Dark World
A world completely dark, where you have to use the "Lamp" effect to see (or you could put the game against a dark background if you're playing in Windowed mode) better. The "knife" effect is located here, and so is the passageway to Wilderness A.

Puddle World
A dark world filled with puddles and lampposts. The "umbrella" effect is located here. Going down two lampposts from the door and going right will lead you to a pink stairwell that takes you to the Dense Woods.

It seems to be based on the common horror element of a dark area with puddles.

Block World
A world filled with blocks. There's a men's bathroom located in this world, as is the "Hat and Scarf" effect. If you talk to the Hat-and-scarf girl, she will teleport you somewhere you normally cannot go. Occasionally she'll teleport you to a place with a shortcut to the Monochrome World/White Desert. Talking to her as a snowman will not teleport you to a random place on the return trip. There is a bed in this world.

Forest World
A Forest area with a part of the Aztec Rave Monkey as the Parallax Background. In this world, you can find a frog that gives you the "frog" effect, and the purple and pink blobs do nothing to you when touched. Somewhere in this world is a passageway to the Face Carpet Plaza.

Deeper Locations
Hell
Also known as the "Red Maze", Hell is one of the largest and most confusing areas in the game, with many branching pathways and Toriningen stalking the narrow paths. There are many connections to other areas, and strange sights to see such as a Vending Machine and a character from the Footprint Path.

There is also a separate 'Mini Hell' accessible from the Bed Room in the Number World that has Madotsuki's Ghost standing at a crossroads.

FC World
Areas where the game's graphics change to resemble an 8-Bit RPG such as Mother or Final Fantasy.

White Desert
A monochrome land that's one of the most known well places in the game due to the amount of bizarre characters and events that can be seen here.

The Mall
The Mall is an area that can be accessed from the elevator in the graffiti world or by taking the same (one way) elevator up from the underground world.
It is a simple complex that resembles a drab shopping mall with avenues of buildings, though most are inaccessible. There are multiple layers of the mall reached by riding the escalators.

Dense Woods
A large, thickly growing forest filled with strange creatures. There are multiple routes that lead through here, with connections to many different areas. Travelling along the road produces some strange sights.

Wilderness
Wilderness A is a large expanse of curly plants and rocky soil reached from an Aztec arch in the Dark World. It is notable for being extremely hard to navigate through all the plants that you see. Wilderness A is split into two parts: the non-looping part and the looping part. The looping part can be accessed from the northeast corner of the area west from the gate to the Dark World. In the non-looping part, you'll see the Toriningen Party, the Aztec Rave Box, and the Barracks Settlement. The looping part contains Onsen-san's house, a towel creature that gives you the Towel effect, and an oval of plants. Walking northwards through the oval leads to the red-eyed plants and the sky garden.

Barracks Settlement
The barracks settlement can be accessed from the Wilderness by going east and then north-west from the Dark World gate, or by entering the Docks from Hell and talking to the Pirori. It's filled with identical shacks and Pirori wandering the streets. One house contains a strange orange creature, another a path to the Mural World. By talking enough to the people, you will be teleported to FC World B.

Sky Garden
The Sky Garden is reachable by going up through a path through the middle of an oval-shaped clump of grass in Wilderness A, heading through a gap in the fence and going up then right. The Sky Garden is at the top of a long flight of steps that look like part of an Aztec pyramid. The Falling Man event occurs on the stairs here. Voices can be faintly heard inside the beeping part of the soundtrack.

Ghost World
The Ghost World is found in the Sky Garden. There is a tunnel there which seems completely dark and cannot be lit up by the Lamp effect. It does not branch. The tunnel ends in a patch of flowers, which, when interacted with once, makes the screen flash slightly and changes the environment outside the tunnel into a world of blue blocks. Listening closely there seems to be faint sound of sniffing, as if crying in the background.

The Triangle Kerchief effect can be found here. To get back to the Sky Garden, enter the tunnel again and interact with the flower once more.

The Sewers
The Sewers can be reached by going down a manhole in the Mural World. The Nopperabou effect and Big Red can be found here. Peering inside the holes in the walls on the way to Big Red seem to be drawings that Madotsuki herself might have drawn.

Windmill World
A small area reached by getting eaten by Big Red in The Sewers.

Docks
Different sections can be reached from Hell or from the Big Red. The Hell section leads to the Fat effect and a shadow man who takes you to part of Wilderness A where the Barracks Settlement can be reached. The Big Red section has a vending machine and takes you back to the Sewers, not much else.

Pink Sea
Also known as the Pastel Shoal World, this world is accessed from the igloo in the Snow World with a pink pool in the middle. Poniko lives here. The balloons teleport Madotsuki in and out of the water. The Frog effect allows her to move through the water more quickly. This is another place where voices can be heard closely in the background.

Underground World
The Underground world is a small location accessed by sleeping in a randomly chosen "dream bed". Following the Staircase of Hands, you go to a storage area. If one wishes to explore this area, either the Umbrella or Yuki-onna effect must be used in order to douse the flames that block your path. An elevator can be taken to the mall, while an additional passage located at the top end of the storage room leads to the spaceship.

Spaceship
Reached by travelling through the Underground World, Seccom Masada-sensei's spaceship is a monochrome environment which eventually crashes on Mars.

Mars
A red, rocky environment that is reached via the Mars event. The boiler room can be entered by using the midget effect and climbing down the steaming vent. A point-of-no return; one must use either the Medamaude effect or awaken in order to leave this area. The UFO event also can occur here if Matdosuki equips the Cat effect and meows repeatedly.

The Static Rooms
Two single-screen worlds that seem empty at first, but flash with erratic television static every few seconds. One houses an invisible maze. They must be worked through to enter the FC World.

Neon Tile Path
A narrow passage of red and purple neon tiles that make sounds when walked over. It leads from the Neon World to Hell.

The Footprint Path
A spooky road where you have to follow the footprints to get out. This location connects the Eyeball World to the Hell. This place is also known as "Footprint Passage".

The Checkered Tile Path
The Checkered Tile Path is a strange path that leads from the Candle World to Hell with trees and lamp posts. There is a Lunatic Toriningen here that can be tricky to avoid.

Face Carpet Plaza
Found in the Forest World by going between a pair of pillars. There is a Lunatic Toriningen here, and a set of blocks takes you to Hell.

The Teleport Maze
Also known as the Cubes Maze, the Teleport Maze can be found by talking to The Jellyfish in the Frog Path section of the Dense Woods B. Toriningen occasionally teleport you here, too. The exit leads to the inside of the Wilderness FC Portal.

Guillotine World
The Guillotine Room is found by going through the bleeding part of the wall in the Bed Room. An openly-looping world, it contains Lunatic Toriningen and the Guillotine which gives you the Severed Head effect. You must escape by climbing into a closet that is not inhabited by [[list of characters#Unnamed (Guillotine World)|A strange creature.
The regular Guillotine world is quite small and has only two Toriningen, but it loops quickly, giving the illusion of there being many more. There is also a 1/8 chance of appearing in a much larger version of the Guillotine world that is four times larger and has no less than 8 Toriningen running around. This makes it much harder to find the guillotine and the escape closet, and it is tricky to avoid so many Toriningen at once.

The Staircase of Hands
A diagonal staircase accessible from sleeping in a random bed in the dream world. If you go upstairs, you wake up again, but if you continue downstairs you reach the Underground World

Flowchart of all the locations.

Yume Nikki has many interconnected locations that vary wildly in theme and size. Some locations also house collectible effects and may also contain events. This is a list of all the worlds of Yume Nikki.

The dream world is an intricate labyrinth of openly looping regions and obscure pathways, but features distinct locations that each have a unique identity. Locations wildly range from small linear paths to large mazes that are a challenge to navigate even with a world map.

Real World

The only location in the game that actually exists, though a dream version of it is present as well.

Madotsuki's Room

Madotsuki's Room
現実の部屋
The place Madotsuki starts, both in the real world and the dream world. In the real world, she can't leave her room, but she can play NASU and save the game.

Original Locations

These are the places in the dream world that are accessible to the player from the very start of the dream, most of which have floating backgrounds and objects plastered around seemingly randomly. They lead to all of the deeper locations, and contain half of all of the effects.

Nexus

Nexus
扉部屋
A hub containing doors leading to the dream version of Madotsuki's Room and the twelve original locations. It is one of the few places to not have any music, making it suspenseful.

Forest World

Forest World
森の世界
An eerie forested area filled with clumps of trees. Many ghost-like creatures inhabit the area and the Aztec Rave Monkey can be seen in the world's background. The Frog effect can also be found here.

Block World

Block World
ブロックの世界
A world full of blocks of varying shapes and sizes with an isometric perspective, almost like a maze. The Hat & Scarf effect lies inside, with a similar hat and scarf being worn by Mafurako, this world's only inhabitant.

Puddle World

Puddle World
水溜りの世界
A dark world filled with puddles reflecting a dark sky, lamp posts that can be turned on and off, and a flight of stairs leading downwards to the Dense Woods A. The Umbrella effect can be found here.

Dark World

Dark World
暗闇の世界
A pitch-black world with tribal patterns on the ground. The Knife effect is found here. Creatures known as Pissipissini wander here while a ghost-like entity named Follony may follow Madotsuki.

Snow World

Snow World
雪の世界
A snowy world with evergreen trees, igloos, and a bed. One of the igloos contains a portal to the Pink Sea while another has a sleeping girl. A wandering Yuki-onna is found here, which gives Madotsuki the Yuki-onna effect.

Mural World

Mural World
壁画の世界
A world filled with large murals depicting strange creatures. A manhole that leads to the Sewers can be found here. Two Mouth Monsters can be found near pools of blood, giving Madotsuki the Long Hair and Blonde Hair effects.

Graffiti World

Graffiti World
落書きの世界
A colorful world with noisy tiles that form a large mosaic featuring two odd creatures. An elevator to the Mall, a women's restroom, and the Bicycle effect can all be found here, with the latter being directly west of the Nexus door.

Eyeball World

Eyeball World
目玉の世界
A world filled with grasping arms, gouged eyeballs, and bouncing legs. One of the arms has an eye embedded in its palm, which gives the Medamaude effect upon interaction. A blue head here takes the player to the Footprint Path.

Candle World

Candle World
蝋燭の世界
A world filled with many lit candles, some even walking. A dwarf runs across this world, which will reward Madotsuki with the Midget effect if she can catch him. An incredibly fast Toriningen also lives here, able to outspeed Madotsuki easily.

Shield-folk World

Shield-folk World
盾民族の世界
The home of the rather lethargic and immobile Shield-Folk, as well as many odd tiles resembling eyes. A spinning Nekoin can be found here, which gives the Cat effect upon finding them. There is also a gate leading to the Static Maze here.

Neon World

Neon World
ネオンの世界
A labyrinthine area inhabited by many colorful creatures, making it slightly difficult to navigate. The Neon effect, obtained from the Neon Parrot, can be found here. A doorway to the Neon Tile Path is also found here.

Number World
